Yep keep saying myself that I'm willing to forgive a LB who is a bit suspect defensively if we can get someone who is gonna tear it up down the left wing for 90 mins and contribute in attack. Even today, Rose busting a gut a couple of times to drive forward with the ball was so refreshing to see rather than Ekotto shuffling forward at walking pace, or Naughton just steadfastly refusing to go forward at all.

For me, it's time for RM to deliver something for Tottenham in this so called partnership we apparently have. So far, we've essentially been their feeder club in selling them Modric and giving them the inside track on Gareth Bale for next year. All they have given us in return is continuous tapping up of Bale. Them selling us Coentrao at a reasonable price would be a nice gesture.

Them taking Suarez from the Goons grasp would be nice. And what you said.

Coentrao also did an admirable job in the DM position when Mourinho bizarrely played him there during the early parts of his tenure at Madrid.

If we got Soldado and Coentrao I would implode at the potential of our team. Coentrao is ultra adaptable, fast and gritty when he needs to be. He'd also be great against bus parkers at home were we could actually have an extremely dangerous full back offering width from deep with plenty of attacking intent, down the left.
hand side.

He'd also absolutely flourish getting to be first choice LB and play full games most week

As I've said on here before I don't really know much about players in other leagues as I don't really follow them but I saw Caontrao at the Euros last year and thought Christ I'd like to see him at the Spurs only to find he'd just signed for Real, bugger, anyway I have seen him a few times since and he's had good games and not such good games but I am still impressed with him and, take note, I know a good player when I see one, so there.

If, in this crazy balmy July, some of these mooted transfers come off (and we're due a 'turns to shit' day) people who we class as solid first team players are gonna start looking like weak links.

It's a strange old time and whilst a stream of top class players rolling up at the Lane is welcome, I would be mildly concerned about integrating everyone into a coherent unit early on.

Of course by January / February when we've hit the top of the league after going unbeaten since September, it'll be fine, but early on, it's a concern.

so now we have problems with Coentrao over Ekotto? lol one thing this place is never short of is laughs.

just so we're clear, it's entirely possible for us to deal with Real without it having to involve Bale. sure, they can ask or make an offer, but we're perfectly entitled to refuse. it's allowed, I've checked. the thing is, Coentrao actually wants to move, so they can either sell to us, sell to anyone else interested, or just vindictively hold on to him just to spite us if no-one else wants him. given that they've already excused him from training this week, and not included him in their preseason match in Lyon today, I'd say the last scenario is highly unlikely. if he decides he's interested in playing for us, then the first scenario becomes more likely. either way, just because they want Bale doesn't mean we have to agree to anything that even remotely commits us to selling him.

We shouldn't forget about what Paulinho said when he joined re: Bale. It'd be pretty shitty of us to make some promises/assurances about keeping him to possibly show our aspirations moving forward and not keep them.

Something the press continue to ignore, very convenient eh?

Here's a dumb question - how is Coentrao pronounced exactly?

Coentrao would add another dimension to our attacking play if signed, like others have said. Hopefully Goat's info comes good, but if not, I wouldn't be too unhappy with Danny Rose getting a fair crack at LB.

One weakness with Coentrao would be physically standing up to any aerial threat - I think he could get over-powered in the Premier League - but it would be something he could improve on and eventually adapt to.

If any Coentrao money was used to help push through a signing of a striker though, I'd be more in favour of that!

Not ITK but some website ran a Naughton to Southampton for £4million story today - any ITK on outgoings? Little news in last few days

Weird RE: Soldado, loads of leaks all yesterday and complete silence today.. Can only spell good for us IMO. Would suggest we've told them to keep quiet and if they've obeyed; would imply we are in the driving seat for the deal. If talks weren't ongoing I'm sure Mr. Big shot president would of been leaking to the press like no tomorrow how the deal had crumbled.

Part of me is a little sad that we may soon field a team on one or two Brits...I know its modern day football and we move with the times and having lived through the dark days of dozzell, cundy and booth the future is looking lillywhite..just wish there was a modern day Paul Allen ( or simular ilk ) to balance it out..

He's only one cm shorter than Ekotto... We already have one of the tallest teams in the league, almost everyone else is close to 2m.

Just to contrast it though we could also field a team with 10, so it isn't all bad.
