Whoever the striker target is, I just hope AVB had got through to Levy and we get this done by next week so coach can have a proper pre-season and get the players who will make up the starting XI working on the pattern of play. Amazing that Levy hasn't gathered how important this is yet after all these years and coaches.

But would Man U have bought at £40m? There's a ceiling on what the non oil clubs can/will pay, and a ticking contract clock to make the sale to ensure a profit on a high purchase price.
Maybe not. They were willing to pay £25m for a player they could have got on agreement just a few months later though. I understand your pt about Benteke. The figures being bandied about are very high for the actual talent he has right now. Such is life though.

RVP is not a £25m player, except that assnal were over a barrel somewhat, contractually.

RVP is a bad example as he was relatively old and only had a year left on his contract. Also Arsenal were well aware of all the injury issues he has had. Again Tevez is a bad example as City needed him off their books thanks to his seriously high wages.

If you look at the prices of strikers like Aguero, that is what we will target, after a few years more development.
But City threw money at Athletico until they couldn't say no. Limited number of clubs can do that, and Aguero is an elite level player. Very few of those around, and even fewer transfers of them.

Well, if we did manage to land Benteke and for arguments sake Chadli, considering they 'allegedly' visited our training ground, Id actually be satisfied with our summers work.
Paulinho -a CM of equal calibre to Sandro/Dembele, so we can rotate them in a CM 2 to keep them fresh, or play together complimenting as a 3.
Chadli? - a winger/wide forward capable alongside Townsend of competing with Bale and Lennon so we don't lose shape if either is out. Able to come in now and offer something whilst having potential to improve still.
Benteke - a genuine power option upfront, something different to what we currently have, again, able to come in and do a job now but with potential to improve too.

Add in the young Croatians, that's a good summer.
Sell fringe players like Parker, Hudd, Dempsey etc to recoup some of the fees and clear wages.

I love these types of posts.

if Beneteke was a spurs player who had scored that amount of goals how much would he be worth with 3 years left on his contract?

as Spurs fans who love to take the moral high ground when it comes to players handing in Transfer Requests, do we really want someone who has done this and now refusing to train?

if Bale did the same would be we happy?

If we get him we have to acknowledge the fact that if he is successful, he will do the same to us.

As long as ADE and Defoe are fit DL won't rush into buying a striker. He will use that as his bargaining tool to make out we're not desperate for a striker.

Bent was 24m.

He has low wages, but will want more. 20-22 is as high as we'll go i reckon. Maybe 25 with add ons and defoe chucked in.
Bent was closer to 18m rising to 24m with add ons, so without knowing what those add on are, we don't know how much of that extra 6m they have had to pay over the top of the fixed fee. The press always quote the complete figure with the add ons when the show the price of Bent.

So if the ITK is to be believed, Benteke puts in a transfer request the day after we showed him round our training ground on the sly?

Anyone getting on their high-horse about how Perez and Madrid 'tapped up' Bale, needs to get off sharpish.
Not quite the day after

Phones my Dad and asked him why he's 6'2" and I'm only 4'2".

He put the phone down.

I was a happy, contented son until then.

You just topped the hit list A&C

...only to get desperate on the last day of the window... ;)

With a yr left on his contract. With another yr on top of that, you'd be looking at closer to £40m.
And take four or 5 years off his age ,could be closer to 50

I demand to know about 'internal interference from within', but that's another story! Maybe A&C could fill us in here - eek! :D

In the meantime, as a guide is there not some sort of formula to work out a players worth based upon his length of contract and wages? As Benteke is on such a comparatively low wage at the moment then I'd say we could afford that cost based on the overall payment on the terms of any new contract - even if we offer to treble it. Benteke's agents will also know that he is only giving up a relatively small amount of money that would be owed to him in bonuses by doing this. Players on large amounts of wages are much more reluctant to do so. Mind you this is all from merely a football transfer watcher and not any financial expert.

Are we not discussing the fact that Benteke is supposedly an A**enal fan? Because I find this to be a bigger character flaw than being a bit on the transfer request-happy side of things...

for the money surely there has to be other, less renowed players. I don't know if his holdup play, channel running etc is "up there". i'm concerned in our system and with the pressure spurs brings he'd be worsre than Ade.

Also he thought aston villa was in london, so not the brightest spark.

Defoe is an arsenal fan, and he has done well for us.

I wouldn't be surprised if Villa would want Defoe in any deal for Benteke. They are going to need a striker as they want to get rid of Bent and if we signed Benteke then Defoe's chances of playing will be more limited. I still think that we need at least 3 strikers at the club with one of the younger players given more of a chance in the cups.

They are also looking for a midfielder to replace Petrov - Defoe and Hud for Benteke?

are we completely sold on LLM's info in general? Isn't it all a bit convenient?

smacks a bit of an approaching "Ha I got you all, for my social studies summer project!" at the end of the window to me...

happy to be wrong tho, of course.

none of the established ITK's seem to diss his information at all which is interesting

If I was Benteke, I'd be praying for a move before the summer holidays are out.

Paul Lambert looks like a pretty terrifying man even at the best of times.
