so we're sniffing at Benteke and Soldado is not our no 1 striker target

so who is ?

no one else has been mentioned other than wide attackers and mid fielders

are we completely sold on LLM's info in general? Isn't it all a bit convenient?

smacks a bit of an approaching "Ha I got you all, for my social studies summer project!" at the end of the window to me...

happy to be wrong tho, of course.

Well, he does seem to have got the dope on Villa to Atleti (which means that those ITKs who heard we were talking to Villa confused David with Aston).

IMO if we can get Benteke for 22 million or less, we will still make a lot of money on him in the future.
Sorry Sho, but I'm seriously doubting this - if you look at the prices that strikers have been going for, only the monied clubs pay over the odds. Even RVP at the top of his game only went for £25m. Tevez was something like £7m. That's not a lot of room for a Dan-like profit on £22m which would also mean selling him with years left on his contract.

Barca are not going to take a lower few for a player, especially when selling to another Spanish club.

ITK said that villa had agreed personal terms also.
They did just that apparently. It was said to honour the wishes of the player. Maybe, but it also saved them 11m euros in wages as well.

But yes, unless Benteke does tear it up a la Berbs, doubtful we double our money at £22m. I think agreed with the $ho post you quoted so what do I know. Up yours $hogun. Tricking me and stuff. :shifty:

I'd love Benteke, but not sure about the prices being quoted... IMO £16m is an accurate price.

With a yr left on his contract. With another yr on top of that, you'd be looking at closer to £40m.

I wouldn't be surprised if Villa would want Defoe in any deal for Benteke. They are going to need a striker as they want to get rid of Bent and if we signed Benteke then Defoe's chances of playing will be more limited. I still think that we need at least 3 strikers at the club with one of the younger players given more of a chance in the cups.

Then the ITK was wrong, wasn't it? Unless it meant personal terms with Atleti, which LLM appears to have called over a month ago.

However going for is a long way away from getting, as we have just seen...

Feeling a little empty after the Villa to Atletico news broke :(

I know how you feel, brother. I was down in the dumps all day yesterday over this Villa update. :depressed:

Bent was 24m.

He has low wages, but will want more. 20-22 is as high as we'll go i reckon. Maybe 25 with add ons and defoe chucked in.

But would Man U have bought at £40m? There's a ceiling on what the non oil clubs can/will pay, and a ticking contract clock to make the sale to ensure a profit on a high purchase price.

RVP is a bad example as he was relatively old and only had a year left on his contract. Also Arsenal were well aware of all the injury issues he has had. Again Tevez is a bad example as City needed him off their books thanks to his seriously high wages.

If you look at the prices of strikers like Aguero, that is what we will target, after a few years more development.

You could direct the same accusation at alot of ITK in all honesty, its very rare that a piece of ITK comes out of the blue without a number of sources quoting it from various angles. I dont think his stuff sounds any more or less feasible than others.

I assume Benteke doing the right thing by handing in the transfer request loses him some money in loyalty bonus so any fee Villa get is net with no outgoings to lose, that should have a bearing on the final price.
Bottom line though is now he has handed in the request any number of vultures will be circling so us getting him is a long way off and we'll have a lot of pain and torture before we do it if we even do.

Both for us and him him coming to Spurs makes more sense than pretty much any of our targets coming or him going to any of the other top clubs. In fact, this is the most obvious striker deal since Bent to Spurs a few years back (don't tell me you can't remember the excitement) and that's the only thing that worries me ;) at least we didn't lose much on him in the end...

So anyhoo. I look forward to reading the news that Chelsea have signed Benteke for £86m in a couple of weeks.

On the plus side, that means we're only a few short weeks away from the Gary Hooper whispers to start up in earnest. Yay.

I love these types of posts.

if Beneteke was a spurs player who had scored that amount of goals how much would he be worth with 3 years left on his contract?

as Spurs fans who love to take the moral high ground when it comes to players handing in Transfer Requests, do we really want someone who has done this and now refusing to train?

if Bale did the same would be we happy?
