Man U have Rooney & Berbatov
Citeh have Tevez & Dzeko
Arse have Chamakh & Van Persie
Chelsea have Torres Drogba & Anelka
Liverpool have Carroll & Suarez

So, who is going to compete with us for that "star striker" in the summer?
Newcastle?? Sunderland??? Everton????

Make a plan. Decide who we want. Make an early bid & do the deal EARLY!

Until then, we just have to hope we've got enough to get us that Champions League spot.

I can't for the life of me understand the trip to Madrid.
Why in the middle of a transfer window would you need to see whichever of Kun/Benzema/Forlan or Diara surely we should have known all we needed to know about those players before the window began.
If we aren't going to compete financially with our rivals and I can see the logic to that then surely we should of signed somebody from the next tier Wolfwinkel etc because there is no reason why it will get any easier to sign a top class player in the summer particularly if we think we've waited until Man city and Real Madrid have finished.
We'd have to take a chance on an up and coming player or be left with Crouch and co.

Good points and I agree, the other clubs have shown their hand. We need to identify our targets now and have deals sewn up early.

no, i've been waiting for that too. if he starts with 'riddle me this riddle that' i might explode.

I am pretty sure he said that he had enough of the abuse and that he wouldn't bother posting again.

The club usually make some sort of statement too. Silence so far.

Agree with this.

As an example, Benzema will probably be off from Madrid in the summer when Higuain is back to fitness. We should be registering our continued interest in him with Madrid and have the scouts/Management team having a good look at him over the next few months to evaluate if he is the striker we need, and then bid as soon as possible to have as little competition as possible.

Strange way to look at it. But if your shopping list contains fillet steak and when your wife realises that the price of fillet steak has doubled overnight then she'll phone with an alternative so you'll at least get something.

However, if she comes home with fillet steak regardless of the price then your over the moon but be pissed off that you havent got any money for the rest of the month.

and if she pretends that rump steak is actually fillet steak then we will argue and i will have to make a stilton sauce to make it ok.

i'm losing track now, who was the fillet, who was the rump and i assume that redknapp was the stilton sauce?

our best signings of latter years have been sewn up early. Modric, Berbatov and Bale were all long standing interest and then signed up early. VDV and Gallas are the exceptions to this, others have said it but perhaps the DOF position needs to be looked at. Harry has done wonders but it may be wise to employ someone full time to do this job.

We need to learn from our mistakes this transfer window.

Today I was told that , we were informed the players in Spain are Not For Sale at any price. we didnt bid, we just get registering interest.

Until the final day, when we did bid knowing they would be rejected.

Hence Harry saying we wouldnt be doing anything,

Pathetic attempt by all.

Can I just say well done to Adie, Rebrab and the other guys who also put their rep on the line to provide an insight! I know as well as you guys know, we aimed for the stars, and didnt even reach the clouds!

The only things that sour the transfer window, and Harry and Levy's performance, was the low blow Neville bid and trying at the last minute to sign Charlie Adam. The way we went about those 2 bids seems very amateur.

The embarrassment was Levy's apparent last-minute efforts to buy every half-decent striker in Spain (although the reality may not be quite the same as ITKs and SSN claimed, that's the image that sticks, and will continue to stick).

Isn't this the problem with brinkmanship though? If it pays off you look like you have the biggest balls in the world, if it fails you look like a dick.

Disappointed not to see some new blood up front, but £35m for Carroll is a joke and I'm not at all bothered that we didn't get dragged into that game. Jury's out on Bongani for me, although as it turns out some cover at CB is welcome, and Pienaar is a decent hard working player who'll produce the odd moment of class - he's not the difference between 4 & 5th, but he makes the squad stronger IMO and is a good addition. Hopefully he didn't bring his "God is Great" t-shirt with him.

The question is would Benzema want to play for a club that is more than likely not in the CL next season..... Also come next summer there will be other big european clubs who would be in for him too with the added bonus of offering him CL football. We royally fucked up last summer, and to a lesser extent this Jan as there was not much about, when we did not upgrade the 4 jokers we had upfront. I really am at a lost at what our transfer policy/strategy is now since we binned the DOF. Back then we all knew that we would sign young and up coming players with huge potential. What is it now as J.Cole, Bellamy, Parker, Neville, etc dont fit that bill.....

Harry has banged on about winners in his dressing room. The vocal chords of Keane have now moved on - and haven't really been at the party this season anyway.

If you get a culture of winners and leaders all over the park, the mentality changes to one of positivity and confidence in each other.

Importing players that have been and done it, like Beckham on the training ground, Neville and Parker, would provide a platform for our young squad to learn from and spring on to greater things on the park.

The names are incidental really, but the type of player isn't.
