Why do we have to faff about so frigging much regarding transfers, the need to penny pinch over every detail, I think it may well come to bite us right where it hurts regarding this benteke saga, the arse will soon realise our targets and there's are gonna be of a similar level and come sniffing about and he will choose them over us no doubt!

i think we genuinely could be with say bernard and benteke, that's the frustrating part.

Yep.

This isn't an anti-Levy post I guess it's just frustration with the game in general but that's a whole different debate.

With all these players going for so much; I feel sorry for clubs interested in Bale next season, Levy is going to have a very fun time making up this price tag.

Why do people assume that because Paulinho + one other will "add up" to the price of Bernard that we could just automatically sign him? I must have missed the part where things were that easy.

Having the transfer fee is one thing, convinving the player to sign for us over the Dortmunds and Portos of this world is another thing entirely. Or we may have the money, and he simply just may not want to join us. The point is, that Bernard has looked totally unrealistic for some time now (as confirmed by LLM the other day)- not just the fact that he'll cost close to 25m, but moreso due to the fact of WHO we are competing with for his signature. Then when you consider Portos link with his 3rd party, you begin to see why he probably won't be wearing our shirt next season.

Keep things in context, we began our window signing an arguably better player in Paulinho than Man City (Fernandinho) for €11m less, who was also voted the 3rd best player in the Confeds this summer. In addition, we are actiively chasing another striker and a wide forward. The club are actively trying to strengthen areas of the team/squad where we have ALL pointed out that we are weak, and I firmly believe that we will do so.

Its over a month until the window closes, plenty of business can and will be done between now and then (and between now and our opener at Palace for that matter).

Im glad someone talks some sense, cant believe all the people on here who come out with random comments like " why don't we bid for rooney, mata 25m job done", like its that easy.

IMO we are signing the best quality of players we can afford, and who will come in the likes of Paulininho, verts dembele and benteke ( if he comes ). But still everybody moans

Is frustrating. But look at chelsea, arse and utd, not that easy.

it is if they're players noone wants.

I've never known a summer when so many top quality strikers are on the/wanting moves.

Negredo
Tevez
Jovetic
Rooney
Higuain
Cavani
Suarez
Gomez

And then you have the likes of....

Benteke
Van Wolfswinkel
Dzeko (must surely want a move)
And no doubt a few others I've missed.

Would be beyond flabbergasted if we failed to sign one ourselves.

What hope have we got when City are just blowing £30 million after £30 million on players... So frustrating. I hoped this year would be one we could be dark horses for top 2/3.

Agreed it's now just become impossible to break in to this little group unless you're owned by a middle-eastern oligarch willing to overpay for any players that might be available. FFP doesn't seem to have done much to deal with that, look at PSG and Monaco.

As long as we're better than Arsenal, I don't mind so much. I don't think, unless we spend HUGE (which probably won't happen) we stand a chance at the title, or even top three NEXT YEAR.

Still, I do believe that we'll get top 4. Right now, our team is better than arsenal's and unless they buy suarez, if we get benteke, then we should finish above thm this year. Looks more promising than ever before. Bale staying, brazil internationl signed, potentially a quality young striker to come, and maybe 1 or 2 more if we're lucky....

In Levy(and Baldini) we trust! ( if they sign Benteke, of course)

with all respect to you, ledders and Jan, Verts is not as good as King was in his prime. And I love both those players. And you a bit too, now I come to think of it... ;)

Aww! Now, I'm blushing! And I did mean Ledley from the squad the season before, which is what the post implied that I was replying to, not Ledley in his prime. :)

I can't see the top 2/3 at all at the moment. As current ITK suggests, with Benteke, Chadli and possibly McCarthy we'd put up a fight for 4th, I think that's the best we can expect. I suspect City and Chelsea will be the top 2 and United could drop off but I really cannot see them finishing below us. Personally I think Arsenal will end up making some good buys and we'll just lose out again. But, it's all very well saying this on paper- there's 38 games to be played, so i'm just gonna sit back and enjoy it this year.

Verts made more mistakes last season than king did in 10 seasons and he only had 1 knee.

I like verts but i think last season he was adjusting to the more physical game in the EPL and got bullied by some of the big no 9s

Suarez, Lewandowski (would've moved if he could), Ibra (could be on the move), Villa, Neymar, Hulk.

Wouldn't bet against us missing out on a "big one" still though.

how much did the ajax side cost that humiliated city last season?? nothing they or chelsea do means anything because everything they do has no glory whatsoever, it's just a dick-waving competition at the bank counter.

they could both sign 50% of the world's players but it'll never change the fact they're just 2 bit 2 bob ****s. fuck them.

anyway, back to us, a striker and a top winger please and lets show these ****s a thing or two.......

Unquestionably, King in his pomp was a superior player, but by the time he retired he was a shadow of his past self. If he would have carried on, I doubt Ledders could have had the season Jan had last year.

I think that is the angle some of us are getting at.

Despite what City have spent, I've not felt any jealousy on any of their signings and certainly don't feel inadequate if we play them.

Isco would have been a game changer for them and thank fuck he went to Madrid!

Its not real Lilbaz. It just can't be. We went from complaining that Levy won't cough up the money to complete a necessary deal to complaining about Levy overspending on a player we likely don't need. I don't know what charlie on tick means but I must have already had one. I'm going back to work.

No i don't think king 2012 could have done as well as verts last year, but comparing last years verts with king in his prime is laughable.

IMO verts passing and quality on the ball papers over the cracks of some poor defending at times especially from set pieces

Could we afford the wages of anyone on that top list though as well as the transfer fee?
