Can anyone else see us spending more than 17 million on a top striker? Was paulinho a priority with dembele and sandro coming back?

Maybe just maybe we were close to signing Villa, he had options and after some thought, discussion with his family etc.. he chose Atletico Madrid, thats hardly DLs fault. POTL said we had done all we could do and it was up to the player, win some lose some.

The problem is people do not take the ITK with the lorry of Salt it needs. There can be no meltdown, there can be no wrist slicing as we dont have him, we may never have been getting him. I just find it odd that this thread turns to shit when something that we dont really have a chuffing clue about doesnt happen.

I don't think anybody is doing the above, just expressing disappointment - world of difference and nothing wrong with it in my book.

We'll get over it and move on. Nobody is going mental from what I'm reading.

I think Villa could have been a decent signing, bit I was never quite comvinced of how he'd handle the transition to a much more physical league at 31. Also, never struck me as a Levy type sogning, big (ish) outlay with littke to no chance of recouping a sell on fee.
I could have been proved wrong, but will not know now. We move on. Not all doom and gloom.

Amazing how it's all Levy's fault when we don't get a potential target, but when we do sign someone it's all down to Baldini

Tried to tell you guys. We'll be bidding for Gary hooper on September 1st. Levy will haggle and haggle for a top striker, but has no problem splashing out 17 million for a midfielder. He is trolling us.
It certainly feels like that.

Everyone is so quick to blame Levy on this deal but has anyone actually thought that it was Villa who didn't fancy coming to us?

We heard from Villa's agent that he prefered Fiorentina and also heard he prefered any team with CL football, Villa probably chose Athletico Madrid over us due to the fact he knows the spanish league, knows he will score goals there and will probably be more in the eye of the Spanish manager which will give him a better chance of being selected for the world cup squad.

He probably didn't want to risk having to adapt to a new league in a world cup year.

Just a thought instead of constantly blaming Levy

Unfortunately this news mean that all recent proposed team line ups that included david villa are now defunct. For the purposes of clarity any such team (including any supplementary text) will therefore be regarded as pure bumfluff.

nicely done. I'd like to point out that I was ahead of the game by putting Ibrahimovic up top in my "realistic Spurs 11" in the thread of the same name - that was pre-bumfluff bumfluff.

Perhaps it was a case of Villa not wanting to leave Spain...I'm not being funny but if you and your family are settled in a place and you have an offer on the table meaning the whole family doesn't have to uproot than it seems logical to take that offer.

we haven't signed Villa - I'm not jumping out of any windows yet. We'll sign a striker and I'm confident he will do a proper job for us.

So Florentina signing Gomez and Arsenal wanting Higuian meant we couldn't lose when going for Villa...and then comes along a team and signs him in the space of 12 hours. How typically THFC's luck!

Maybe just maybe David Villa wanted to stay in spain and also play in the CL??

You can no way start slagging off the guys who revealed we were in for him (perhaps some being way too excited and saying he is 100% ours)

Anything can happen. And to our sadness it has.

BUT i really think as much as i am gutted this could be a blessing maybe.

Avb will be angry im sure and Levy will want to make sure he dont mess up this time around.

Soldado and Benteke .... These are the two that can REALLY make a difference. There is no other option but to really get stuck in now and make things happen.

Levy is no way that bloody daft!! We are at such a fine line as a club were one big striker signing will make this club have huge potential for the upcoming season.

I am amazingy still very much positive. COYS

I can see us doing that. If we can spend 20m on 2 17yr olds (pls make it happen) we can spend 17m on a striker. And AVB and Bale won't be happy without new striker/s. And fans.
