No it really doesn't. The gamble that he stays fit and play in a Spurs shirt for another year could mean we get much more through commercial sponsorship, TV money and a possible place in the CL.

That is the balance Levy must weigh but I still think 60 million plus over loads the accept side of the scales because of the risks, some unknown.

Will put my nuts on the line and say no way will Leandro sign by this Sunday.

Then again I'm always wrong so he probably will;)

This is the problem. Bale isn't a one in a million. He's a once in a lifetime. When did Spurs last have one of the top 3 players in the world?!
It's this exact reason that I don't even care about money, I just want to enjoy watching him in a Spurs shirt for as long as humanly possible.

not even if the bigger picture makes us a stronger team all over the park

Bubble07 had the right idea like this

Contrao 14m, Di Maria 23m , Ozil 23m and Higuin 20m should do it!

Lloris
Walker Kaboul Vertonghen Contrao
Sandro Dembele
Di Maria Ozil Lennon(or Another)
Higuin

That's a title shot team

Why would they all join us, and how could we afford their wages? Just playing Devil's Advocate/trying to be realistic.

I really doubt the Leandro deal will be done by Sunday. It will drag on for a few weeks I think.

Yeah, I can see Ozil, Di Maria and Higuin all joining us.

Contrao is the only one who would consider and even then we don't want a LB according to AVB.

We sell one of the best players in the world, we can't go out and buy one of the best players, or even some of the top players in the world due to that we are not in the Champions League something that other clubs can offer top players.

I know but what im saying is 80 million for one player is madness to turn down, if it can be invested in the starting 11 to make us stronger

We have to think rationally. IF Madrid offer 80m how can Levy justify not accepting? Its a sad fact of life I'm afraid. Even if Bale stays will his value really increase beyond 80m? Probably not

If Madrid want him and they seem they badly do its time to play FM swaps but for real. Contrao 14m, Di Maria 23m , Ozil 23m and Higuin 20m should do it!

Lloris
Walker Kaboul Vertonghen Contrao
Sandro Dembele
Di Maria Ozil ______
Higuin

I presume this is a tongue-in-cheek comment because its simply not going to happen. These players are not cattle and the harsh reality is they won't take a step down from Madrid to us. As much as I'd love those players the only way we can attract players like that in their prime is a) CL football or b) silly wages. Or preferably both. We've even less chance of attracting them if we sell our best player as well.

I have a suspicion that Levy is going for his 'Ardilles and Villa' moment with Leandro and, er, Villa.
No offence intended but I hardly think so. Ossie and Villa had just won the World Cup when we signed them. Yes David Villa has done this and most things is football but Leandro couldn't even help his team beat Mexico in the Olympic final.

It can sometimes work that way, the thing about Bale is though that he's pretty easily the best player in the league imo, which means we have the potential to reach a higher level than anyone else. We HAVE to build on that imo, to take the opportunity we have.

If I was Bale though I would be wondering whether I'm going to have to carry the team on my shoulders for another year though, and continue getting double and triple marked without having other quality attacking players to exploit the space that creates on the pitch. It must be pretty frustrating, if we're not serious about adding real quality to the team then I wouldn't blame him at all for wanting to leave. But if we do add quality players I would expect him to stay and give it a shot next season.

The whole Brazil team was dire in the final, get over it. They were quite fantastic in all the other games and didn't Leandro win the "golden boot" of that tournament? Our team got outplayed by Basel over two legs, does that mean our players are shit because on the day we lost to a lesser side? Leandro will be a good signing for us if he signs and he is a good prospect. I wish that people can stop being so FUCKING NEGATIVE all the time.

Anyway, can't get excited about this Leandro deal. Not who I would go for, but obviously the one the club wants the length of time it has gone on.
