Of course respecting your right to post, debate and question information

But what I have written is fact, no guessing, it's how it's done.

If you would like me to expand on any points I'd be more than happy to clarify

Only when sober though eh Wish?

It's been mentioned a few times on SC that Levy has interest in the "moneyball" concept.
My own opinion of moneyball is that it has success (as proven by Beane & the A's) but it does not produce titles or trophies.

Actually, according to the film, Boston Red Sox adopted the philosophy and won the World Series within 2 years.

Food for thought hey?

Inter will force his hand well before that - if nothing else comes along soon he'll go to Galatasaray.

If he rejects Gala and no offer till last day? As far as I know, getting rid of him is more important than UCL for Inter. Just look at all the cheap signing by Inter. There is some shit going on with Inter books....

But it's a huge risk to bring him in though. :)

If you look at the moneyball principle as buying low and selling high we've been doing that for quite some time now. Another thing to consider is that while it's a perfectly good strategy in baseball I don't think it's that easy in modern football. Baseball as a sport isn't comparable to football at all.

In baseball there is no real "teamwork", as every single player can be greedy and do what maximizes their personal value every single play. That's fine, because greediness in baseball is usually to the team's best interest. Conversely, in football, greediness is detrimental to the team, and modern footballers have to be good at more than one thing. It's not enough for a footballer to be an excellent finisher if he can't pick a pass, put it that way. Team synergy is also important, as you have absolutely no guarantee that a new player will fit in and perform well with the 10 other players already in the team.

Keeping up with the general theme of this thread though; I really hope we sign a striker and a Moutinho.

Hey Voxy, do you go to SIngapore Spurs at Scruffy Murphy's?

I heard about it but I had not been there yet.... :)

ha i've been there in 2010

saw Ossie give a speech and got a signed shirt. if you're a spurs fan you get a discount if i recall. Shirts now framed!

I used to go when living there, but have recently left Singas. It was always a good night out. Anyhow, at risk of going way off topic, SG Spurs stuff should go in here:

Didn't Taylor do something similar with the long ball game? Some statistician came up with the stat the 80% of goals or such came from long balls and Taylor developed his tactics around this.

So we are Net positive but our chairman is also positive he don't wanna spend it.
Quite. That cash could be earmarked in Levy's mind for something other than transfers, or he might just not want to pay over inflated transfer fees in January, as his plan for THFC is a long-term one, not game to game like a fan's.

I hope it's this. We aren't in the position of desperation. There is no need to throw money at an overpriced player or greedy agent. We aren't QPR, for example. A few key additions would be great, but no need to waste money if those players aren't available.

It's a hard sell too when Ade has been unavailable for a part of the season, we had a stretch without Dembele and Parker has been out for half a season - yet we're still 4th and well in contention for a CL place.

Levy must be looking at it and thinking: "well if i can get a bargain that can improve the squad then great i'll do that (Holtby), but there doesn't seem to be a need for me to allow £20m+ to be spent this window"

It would almost have been better for us, transfer wise, if we were in Liverpool's position right now.
