the young brazilian the journo mentioned could be Douglas Costa who plays for shakhtar donetsk

he's not 'unknown'. i see that name pop up every now and then. i didn't have a single clue who bernard was until people started mentioning him on here. At first I thought people were joking about dogs!!! Hope it is him!!

I seriously doubt it, we'll never or very rarely deal with clubs like Shakhtar, surely you realised that from the Willian saga. We want to pay under market value not top dollar for our players

How things are shaping up, this would be a fantastic window:

Villa, LD, Bernard and one of Vydra/Cornelius etc as attacking options.

We still need a playmaker, worrying there's been no ITK to suggest we are in for one?

Then a younger defender maybe Alderweireld.

I would be chuffed with that.

Leandro's Champion's League preference makes a lot of sense when you factor in the World Cup. He'll want to be visible this year and CL is sadly for us the best stage for a Brazilian abroad. Last thing he'll want to is spend 3/4 months on our bench 'acclimatising' & get forgotten.
It's his home world cup & he's on the fringes; his concern is understandable AND ALSO ANNOYING, SIGN UP YOU FUCKER!

Very true, but if he's banging them in left, right and centre in the PL then that should be a big enough stage for his to be recognised and picked for the World Cup, I'm sure Sandro will get picked if has another good season and he won't be in the CL.

Lol just never gonna happen, transfer windows are always the same in these early stages, big hopes that never materialise. I can't see us signing both of LD and Villa unless Villa's content to play out wide in which case I couldn't see us signing Bernard as well, who's probably out of our reach anyway.

Agree about the playmaker though second most pressing need for me

Though playing alongside Bale in the PL and rattling 20 in over the season should get him noticed.(y)

I think it could be Bernard still, let's be honest... He's in his breakout season largely and most of the forum probably didn't know who he was. Still constitutes as an unknown player IMO.

There are an awful awful lot of other players who also constitute as an "unknown player"

Let's also consider that no itk has come out and said "bernard" iirc... Surely, if it was him, someone would bite the bullet and tell us directly - there are a bunch of seemingly regular itk'ers - not one has. I can't adhere to a "everyone is keeping hush 'cos they don't wanna muck up the deal / alert other clubs" theory.

If it was happening and was so secret that itk providers, some who are maybe two or three times removed from the source, were saying: "ok; I fully understand my co-operation is imperative" other clubs would / could gazump us if there was money on the table.

in short, it's in more people's interest (bernards club, bernards agents) to make a Spurs move public at any stage - jeez, even if it isn't happening - just to drum up interest in their commodity.

None of these things are happening. It ain't bernard. which is a shame :( cos he looks v tasty.

By the way, for people saying its an "unknown" brazillian, the ITK said "lesser known"

I did see a media link yesterday which gives me an ever so faint hope but I just can't see it happening if I'm honest

Keep on dreaming and you'll be shocked when you come out of it on 31 August.

How much do you think he would cost?

Bernard?

Spartak Moscow had a 10m ish bid rejected in December. 15-18m is probably more realistic. His club are the reigning champs, I doubt they need to sell. Brazilian clubs are not the conveyor belt to Europe that they used to be.
