Townsend is a perfectly capable LW. But when he's out, the drop in quality and contribution is massive. If we lose Lennon, he has plenty of cover. But there is no one that can put in a solid shift on the left after Townsend. Clubs with our ambitions cannot suffer such a drop.

Nah, Sherwood fortunately used Fryers over there against Stoke (albeit with Naughton on the other side), and he did quite well. I'm hoping he'll stick to that, with Naughton on the bench to provide cover for both fullbacks. This is an area that I'm actually rather pleased with Tim's youth policy in regard. Never want to see Jan out there again, and Naughton is absolutely awful over there despite being a solid RB.

I'm thinking the same and, to be honest, his intelligence combined with the ability of the likes of Giroud, Cazorla etc, is not a pretty thought.

I personally wouldn't be surprised to never again see BAE play for us. I think his time at the club is done.
