That said, I think Suarez will do well in the EPL, and unlike Huntelaar he has more to his game than scoring lots of goals. Also unlike Huntelaar, he's got a reasonable turn of pace—not Bent or Agbonlahor quick, but in the same bracket as Tevez. It's just his being a git extraordinaire I have a bit of an issue with.

Isn't one of our problems that we are too nice? Look how Ferdinand got the goal decision against us overturned whilst our players respected the referee and backed away.

vdV has really added a bit of aggressive competitiveness to our side and I think Suarez would do that even more.

I'm not unconcerned by his behaviourial record, but I do think having someone with a bit of fire in their belly might be quite benefical.

I agree with you on that Dan, and I think SS57 has said he thinks he'd do well, just is a little concerned at his attitude.

Are really doing the Dutch league argument again? And Kuyt as an example of a player who doesn't score here is incredibly harsh.

Just in comparison:

71 in 101 for Feynoord
39 in 156 for Liverbore

Kuyt isn't prolific and as somebody else said he has played a large number of his games for pool on the wing, but I'd have him in our squad. He's better than Crouch or Keane and he's better on the wing than Niko or Bentley.

How often does Kuyt play down the middle as a striker? And how often does he play as a winger expected to do a lot of tracking back?

Its not just about what League a player comes in from, its as much to do with whether that player actually suits the Premier League team he joins. A player could do great in Eredivise, then come over to England and do shit for a Premier League club. Yet it doesn't necessarily mean he would do shit at a different Premier League club. A bit like how Bent never really suited our style of play, but suited Charlton and fits in well at Sunderland.

It's all about getting a player who will fit into our system. It doesn't matter what League they're from. They just need the right attributes to suit us and our attacking play.

What a ridiculous comparison. Honestly Dan ffs.

Centre Forward, to winger, great grounds to compare.

I'm not belittling Kuyt as a player or ignoring his change of role, just thought it was interesting how his scoring record in Holland was similar to Suarez's.

So why use his stats at Liverpool as some sort of proof that he doesn't score in the Prem? He's never going to score as many playing in the role that Benitez put him in.

I think Luis Suarez irrespective of what league he plys his trade in has the tools to be a success in the premier league. I look at the player and not the league he plays in. I'm sure we have had many opportunities to watch him play in games outside of the eredivese, in which I'm sure he has impressed.

He isnt Dirk Kuyt, he isnt Klass jan Hunterlaar and he isnt Mounir El Hamdoui ether.

Any transfer is a risk, look at Torres and Arshavin's form now to see that. Suarez is available and at a time when his stock is probably at its lowest point. I'd say it was worth the risk

Suarez or Forlan?

I can't honestly see Levy investing 15-20M in a striker who will be 32 in May when we can buy a 23 year old for the same price.

I do think Forlan is better at the moment but (usually wisely) our chairman will always go for the player with sell-on value and I think he'd be right to do that here.

I could see Suarez being a useful player on top of his obvious goalscoring ability as he's pretty versatile. If we were playing a game with him on his own up front in a 451 with VDV, Lennon and Bale and it wasn't working, we could bring Lennon off for Pav or Crouch and put Suarez and Bale on the wings as wing forwards in a Barcelona style 433.

SS57, i respect your posts on here but this hate campaign you have for Suarez is a bit much, you've said your point, time & time again.

How about leaving it there?

How is pointing out that he can be a really nasty piece of work a hate campaign? Sorry for actually having watched him a fair few times for Ajax and all that, but from a lot of posts on here I get the impression that quite a few people were unaware that he even existed before the WC, otherwise there wouldn't be responses like, 'Handling on the line isn't a big deal.'

I haven't said that I don't want us to sign him, either. From the footballing point of view I can't see us doing better this window, and possibly not in the summer, either. But when I say he makes Bellamy look like Francis of Assissi, I'm not exaggerating too much.
