There was a lot of reports that came out over the last few weeks mentioning that bale HAD signed a new contract with us, but this has since gone quiet....

Could this be a management ploy where we announce the new DOF and then damiao and bale sign!!?

It would be some good management from levy as it would indicate that the new DOF had something to do with it and any initial doubters out there regarding the DOF and his purpose ect would be gone.

Now this post has optimistic rating written all over it haha

Unfortunately this sort of thing very rarely (if ever) happens.

If Bale had signed a new contract then it would have been released by one of the many mouths of football, and similarly 'hidden' transfers don't happen as it's not in the player or the player's agent's interests.

Dont see the point in delaying an announcement on Bale signing a new deal tbh, if anything the sooner that is announced the better, as other players will know he is staying and will want (hopefully) to play in the same team.

Baldini is a big fan of Leandro? Of course he is.

At this rate the new stadium will be called 'Leandro Lane', with a constantly pushed back opening date.

Yep - from looking at Baldini's record at Roma he seems very adept and finding those players in the 7 - 12m pound range that can go on to bigger and better things. I said this the other day, but that is still where we are (at least till the stadium is done) as their wages are also traditionally doable. As soon as you start aiming for the 20m+ deals like Moutinho, Willian - you also have to pay them 100k a week too.

That's why keeping Bale is the best idea. Up his wages a bit more, cos selling him for 60m still won't mean we can buy the 20m players. Might as well keep doing what we have done and look for players like Vert 8/9m, Sig 6m, Sandro 6m, Lloris 9m to supplement what we already have (Bale). If Baldini knows those players better than anyway - then i'm on board :)

Clearing the deadwood out like Bentley should in theory free up some wonga to buy and pay the likes of Leandro. No, maybe not the second coming of Messi but somewhat better than the deliverance of a Raziak. I would willingly stick with Kane over that kind of investment thankyou very muchly.

They were not all valued at 20 million+ and you have to also remember that it is not that uncommon for teams to splash 15+ million on players when chasing CL spots. Needs perspective.

What just like Man Citeh have just done?......................................:bag:

The trouble is, negotiating football transfers is rarely this black and white is it ? We know that there is a price the selling club wants and that price can often diminish the closer you get to the end of the window. This isn't just Levy's rule, but the general rule. It's an auction with an optional buy it now that clubs like Chelsea, ManC, PSG or Ansi etc sometimes take advantage of. :Levy had a choice it appears, buy players AVB didn't really want (or were lower down the list), or try to get the ones he did in the auction process.

Totally agree. That's why I said a collective responsibility.

I think this is a fair question.

You're right that AVB (and now Baldini) should be clear as to what their budget is so that they can go after realistic targets.

I'm not 100% convinced however that Levy has always been as open about that budget as would be ideal. Hopefully that won't be the case this window.

That leads back to my original point on the communication issue - I'm not sure AVB had a real understanding in what was truly viable.

Yes, finishing fifth without Modric, Ledley King and VDV.

"Bare Bones"..................Dembele, Verts, Dempsey, Holtby,Lloris. How many more players need to be brought in before you drop that bullshit?.

Did Hoddle leaving for Monaco really have this much on an effect on you?
