It's possible that Gomes has a couple of meetings lined up with a few clubs. If three clubs were interested and wanted to hold talks, would it be easier for three sets of representatives to fly over to London to speak to Gomes, or for Gomes ( who we don't even use ) to just go to Brazil and go for talks at each club, getting a sense and taste for them at the same time, by actually being there ? I'd go with the second, as it could lead to a quicker resolution. It's most likely that he's going to have to take a wage cut, so will place a lot of importance on finding the right club, with the right manager and long term plan. Ie a club that gives him a good feeling.

Conjecture on my part, but there you go.

He's been winding loads of Goons up about Wilshere's club allegiance, parentage, pikey status, etc... You know what that lot are like, they'll be retweeting his wind-ups and 'getting all a'fluster' or whatever those prawn sandwich-eating, plastic nonces do.

A Spammer who plays for the Goons? All we need now is for him to like John Terry and he has the complete set.

"HUGE wage demands"

Interesting. Levy might be willing to pay more than normal if transfer fee involved though I guess. Haven't seen much of him myself so know idea if he is worth it or not.

There were reports stating that Levy was willing to offer some of the more substantial wages of the club due to their being no fee and their seriousness about him being a starter for the club. That might be part of it. I wouldn't be surprised if it was 80-85k, really.

Drats.

To be honest, what other game did we all think Holtby was playing by running his contract down, if not to earn himself a very large contract ? To be honest, now that I think about it, and think about how sought after he probably is, his wage demands could easily be sky high/outrageous to a club of our means, if his personality/entourage influencing him, were of that disposition.

Awwww, a table and points system for ITKs. Cute. How very 2008.

And how completely meaningless. It's impossible to know exact levels of interest and activity, hence why SS57 stopped his efforts, which were the best record by some way - better even than our "Log" (the genius of that name never quite appreciated in its own lifetime).

Exactly nothing new for people on a free to demand high wages and huge sign on fee, they know their next contract is pretty much a 6 month auction and they will go to the highest bidder most of the time

He would be stupid to ask for a reasonable wage when the likes of Tottenham, Arsenal and Liverpool as well as most likely his boyhood club Everton fighting for his signature

Schalke UK news@Schalke_UK
Well, Bild claim Holtby turned down Schalke's offer to double hiswages (€3m a year instead of €1.5m), and asked for €5m.

That's not that high if true.

5,000,000 = £4,056,175.00 / 52 weeks = £78,000 / week.

I mean, it's large for a young player that hasn't proven anything in a tougher league, but it's something I'd be willing to offer considering there is no transfer fee and his future sell-on value potential is MASSIVE.

but where does it go form there after his current contract expires? If say 2 years into his contract of 80k per week, he's playing well and is asking for 100k?

Anything much higher than what Danny Boy earned as a paper delivery boy is fucking "Huge" when it comes to player salaries. If Holtby wants big money then let some other club take him. He ain't that good anyway.

I'm surprised there's more posts about Adam suter and whether his info is reliable and less about WISHKAH's post that someone is working on his previous portfolio... This is singularly THE most exciting news the past 2 weeks for me, as Wishkah was thoroughly itk and informative about the financial side of things.. (and given the thumbs up by people who know how things work)..

Iirc he also worked on the money for the ade deal...

I'm sure there was ITK about him turning us down in the summer (If you believe the ITK that is)

Yep, as well as Arsenal because Liverpool made him lots of promises that shouldn't have been made and couldn't really be kept just to win the race for him, Which is the only reason he wasn't part of the Modric deal.

He ain't a happy chappy now and neither are we as we wan't his wages off the books t give to new players instead wh'll contribute more.

TBF to the lad, he has been constantly been played out of position so as to accommodate Mr Gerrard's wishes to play the 'Alonso' role even though Mr Gerrard is best behind Suarez and Sahin would of been better playing where Gerrard is instead.

Sad thing is, we'll never know now as were trying to terminate his loan.

More ridiculous mismanagement from LFC off the field in the office.

While I agree to an extent, "football club prepares to spend money abroad in transfer window" is hardly surprising.

Liverpool just cannot stop signing overpriced distinctly average British players can they. Hilarious.

How and why are you so certain he is average and will continue to be so? He's hardly had a fair crack of the whip at Chelsea as he?

The last time he played regular footy, which all strikers need I'm sure we can agree on that, was for Boltn where he did very well and scored his fair share.

Unless he hits all his performance bonuses, besides his wages ( which he has agreed to reduce from Chelsea to around £50-60,000 pw), he won't cost anymore than £9 mil.

Now I have been very critical of our awful transfer policy of late but even I can see this deal is nowhere near in the Henderson/Downing/Carroll league of overpaying sillyness, especially given his age and potential.

I remember plenty of you lot saying in the Summer you'd have him when he was linked with you too.

As always, time will tell, but I am much more positive about this move in relation to cost and potential of success than the signings made by Comolli/Dalglish I have to say.
