Here is what I am wondering if people could explain it to me.

Does ambition only count as being shown if

a) a player is signed for a huge fee and

b) if said player turns out to be decent?
C) actually signed with a minimal of fuss rather than a club lurching from one target to the next before coming back with a half arsed loan?
????

Correct me if wrong but traore hasn't signed for Barca, they're not close to signing him (registration issues due to salary cap)
Nothing confirmed and it's merely stated they have opened talks.

We opened talks, had talks and were/are close to a deal.

I'm not saying we will sign him or even that Barca will/ won't. Just merely pointing out how obviously and insanely quickly people in here jump on a rumour
That's beause it fits a pattern that's been repeated ad nauseam. Spurs line up transfer, dither, player gets other offer/has second thoughts, spurs lose out yet again.

*venting valid concerns every window* - “wait until the end of the window!!”

*end of the window, nothings changed* - “it’s almost like you want the club to fail!”

no, we don’t want the club to fail. we just see the same story every single window and it always ends the same.

i appreciate some of your optimism and patience but that’s clearly been ripped out of me

But you don't just see the same story every window.

Pretty much every club misses out on players each window but that is not the whole story, it's just the chapter you choose to focus on.

We have signed lots of players.

Like most of us, I have no idea what's going to happen. However, we've all witnessed multiple transfer windows, and thus far there are no concrete signs that this one will be any different. I think it's completely reasonable to be pessimistic, and don't understand why some are being criticised for that.

I don't think anyone is against venting at all. What I'm against is the same exact posts literally every single day. It's the same recycled jokes and defeatism, and often criticism that is incorrectly thrown toward Levy, ENIC or just not based in fact and rather a narrative that's been made up in someone's head because of their incessant negativity.

We want to back Conte but when it's a player he wants (Amrabat) people say he's not good enough; when Adama falls through due to Mendes or a bigger club coming in for him, it's somehow Levy's fault (????); when we don't sign young players and they go to Germany and become superstars, our scouting sucks, but when we do sign young players it's also not good enough because they're not ready for first-team football yet.

Just a handful of the same criticisms repeated ad nauseam every day.

Even though everyone has said the delay wasn't at spurs' end.

This is more about your bias than what is happening.

A quick check on Google would have told you Jota wasn't actually Liverpools first choice, it was Sarr from Watford until they heard the asking price. They also used an academy player going the other way as a makeweight for Jota. I'd say there was likely a heavy agent fee involved as well as Liverpool have been known for that.

Nobody is making excuses, they're just saying wait until the window ends.
And the deal again hinged on Mendes being able to force Wolves to sell Jota with Mendes making another fat commission by bringing in Fabio Silva as an untested teenager to Wolves for a ridiculous £35M fee.

The main point is they get it done. Liverpool under Henry is the model we could and should have followed. Still no idea why Mitchell left us!
Believe it or FSGout were trending on Twitter the other day. There is big concern from their fans that Liverpool won’t be able to tie down a deal for Salah and they got no cover in the forward areas (origi, Jota, Minamino) and for a lot of the squad. So, a lot of what we say and feel here is happening at other clubs too. Man City havn’t brought In a striker in god knows how long. Arsenal needed a central midfield and defence (and still do) for how many years. Utd spent 2-3 years getting Sancho, then only to get Ronaldo in to make Sancho a sub. You can go through every club and point to similar situations. It is not just a spurs thing.

Once fans realise that then they can start thinking about why it is this way. And it mostly comes down to money and greed. Transfers are massive complicated deals with 10’s of millions of pounds at stake. It may appear short change to us but is not. Then there is the other side where transfers are a business for the likes of sky sports and talk sport (as well Twitter users/YouTubers who are permanently angry). It genrerates huge amount of interest and clicks and some fans hang on every single word and rumour. I just kinda see Derby county and Sunderland till I die and then see the likes of Mendes and Riola making huge sums of money and basically being in charge of transfers and it makes me sick. I don’t blame fans for the way they act (mostly). They get treated like consumers so they act like consumers. It’s football. There’s no sense of proportion anymore.

It sounds like we had everything laid out for Traroe to come but he ( Mendes)was just waiting to maximise his gains.

They don't have to be a huge fee

ideally they should fit a need that we have or that they have lots of promise and that there is a full plan visible.

Other than that, one signing 27 days into the window I think isn't too much of a hard ask

I think it's because we can do the underlined bit slightly better than some!

I don't think anyone will be OK if the bold turns out to be true.
I used to be one of the peeps who would only get angry post-window, but the same story has just happened so many times that I don't see the point anymore, we know where this window goes. I must be getting old.

We have signed lots of players.

Of course every club misses out.
But do they miss out on those that they have tried to sign for two windows?

I sincerely hope we're all popping champagne in a few days in the hope & confidence of reinforcements to give us a good shot at Top4 with Conte.
Coz if we don't, and if Newcastle Stay up, I doubt we'll get as good a chance again under these owners. Its Nelsen & Saha repeated.

I'd also say that the amount of ITK has been pretty light all of January (compared to previous windows), so maybe the real targets are not being leaked.

Agree except everyone knows and is told repeatedly that Jan signings, especially for top targets are notoriously difficult.

Even though Trix has been clear that the planning is for this and the next window not just this one ?

I don't think there's criticism of justifiable pessimism or scepticism based on what has actually happened over the last few windows, more so of those saying (often repeatedly) that they know its a foregone conclusion.
