So we're going to spend £25m on someone to be an understudy for a year. Don't believe it. If Lamela signs, Bale's gone.
Lamela one side, Bale the other, Lennon Chadli understudies. Think Sig will play deeper more often.

Oh man Lamela coming in after signing Soldado is just pure fantasy football. Really can't see Bale staying though if he does join.

If all of those players are shifted, they would basically cover the Paulinho and Soldado fees (£43m). That would bring our total spending to £6m (?) for Chadli. Would certainly leave room for Capoue, Lamela/Willian, Eriksen, a new LB and possibly a CB with the new TV-deal, Lewis' rumored £50m etc.
Evolution not revolution surely. Last years team wasn't so bad !

So lamela, capoue, halilavic still to come? Thats another£60m on top of what we've already spent. Maybe even an lb?
I seriously want to know what levy and lewis are smoking cause i would sell it by the key.

if we sign Lamela I'd be somewhat weary that we will see footage of Bale in a Madrid airport on Sept 2nd surrounded by paparazzi looking fairly pleased

to have them both just does not compute right now

That ITK was well timed. Bound to keep me buzzing through a boring international friendly with England!

Thanks Jasper, you fucking legend. (y)

Levy could be looking at the Lamela situation like this:

He is Baldini/AVB's number one choice to replace Bale (Let's argue in this scenario we're keeping Bale).

IF (and it's likely) Lamela carries on his progress as a footballer and notches up an even more impressive goal return next season - You could be looking at £40-50 million in today's climate.

Another if is if Levy believes Bale will maintain his value (this is dependent on Madrid's interest which I believe will be there next season if he has a good season) then Lamela would make perfect sense now.

Levy would essentially save himself £10-15 million on Lamela by bringing him now (if the £30 million tag is to be believed) and have a Bale replacement already integrated into the squad; making the whole ordeal of Bale inevitably leaving much less damaging to us a squad.

Hope that was coherent o_O

tl;dr Levy is a businessman and for the sake of an additional £3-4 million in wages for a season he can potentially save himself £10-15 million in transfer fees for Lamela.
