Quite a way further down (West). Penzance, approx 10 miles from Lands-End, 7 miles from St Ives (love it there in the summer, muchos scantily clad femmes), within an hour of literally EVERYWHERE in Cornwall.
I like St. Ives, there used to be a cracking pasty shop that did a smoked mackerel pastie. It's a Presto Pasty shop now :(

But it also doesn't say

"I wanted bassong out on loan for a bit of profit so I could bring nelson in at the end of his career on a free midway through a CL qualification season"

I'm not denying Harry thought nelson was a good player, and it turns out that in fact Harry felt he could assist him later on at his next club. I'm just pointing out that it wasnt a plan born inside the mind of Harry Redknapp. It was a contingency set up after the event of bassong being let go for a loan fee above Harry's head

I've kept out of this little discussion. It also doesn't say....

"When I arrived last year, Boateng was injured and he'd had a few problems,"Redknapp told the club's official website.
"I didn't really know much about him but I was listening to what other people were telling me about his character. They weren't painting a very good picture of him.

"I ended up asking myself 'Do I need him around here if it's true? Yet, on the pitch, I thought the kid could really play and I wasn't keen to sell him."...

Sorry Ryan :(.. I'll never get over the KPB sale. Who in their right mind, let alone a supposed 'top top manager' (just going along with the press, and himself) let's a player go, just because others weren't painting a good picture of him? WTF happened to a manager taking a look for himself & making his own decision? He felt "the kid could really play", yet he never took a look at him for himself. I may be alone in this, but a player like KPB would be bloody awesome in amongst Sandro & Dembele. I think he's more than proven his ability since the last fella we had in charge let him go. Again, sorry, Ryan!!

May even be more as those figures may be net wages and so the actual figure being paid out would be near double that according to our tax as I understand it.
No way are the figures net. Bale's reported £130k a week has to be gross, as would all the other wages quoted. Don't journos make a big deal of "after tax" when talking player wages. I'm thinking Sneijder at Inter was one, and there was a huge loophole or tax relief situation in Spain a couple of years ago which meant top earners paid fuck all tax.

I think you are presenting (maybe because you've been told it by Redknapp) like Levy came up to Redknapp one day and said "I've loaned out Bassong and I've found you Nelson instead, like it or lump it".

I reckon some discussion would have taken place between Levy and Redknapp, which went more along the lines of Levy saying "we've had a good loan offer for Bassong, who you aren't using at all and is grumbling about not getting any football (which he was) any idea who we could get in if we go for it ?" or "what do you reckon ?"

Redknapp almost certainly suggesting Nelson - the player by his own admission he'd pursued for years - and we know he has a penchant for what he perceives as quality older free contract players (and many are decent players).

Then when the wheels start to come off - again - after January, he's telling everyone how "it was all Levy".

Worst case scenario, we have a chairman loaning out a player not being used by his manager and brings in one the manager has always wanted to sign (and who took him onto his next club). Hardly a manager being shafted is it.

Lovely, know it well. I still have family in Mullion and Helston so get down when I can

Lived in Helston too (Meneague Street & Parc Eglos). Also got my first ever job here in Cornwall, in Helston (whilst I was still at school). Used to be up at 4.30am, then go to the 'Horse & Jockey' bakery, to take the pasties out of the oven & put them out to cool. Then off to school (in St Just, 30 miles away lol), but 'twas worth it for the £50 p/w I got (y)

I don't know the facts about KPB but I agree with you, it certainly doesn't paint Harry's judgement in its best light for sure.

Who took him to Portsmouth though? Was that Harry?

Again, very well manipulated to suit your argument using just assumption :)

It's long gone now and probably best discussed in any other thread than this anyway

Hmm. A guy with a problem with names. I wonder who, attached to the club, has a problem with names. It's right mystery .

:p

I have no idea. I just love the idea that Pleat outed himself by calling the Bahamas, Barbados. Because he's one guy, I could see making that mistake. It would give me so much joy.

NO, Harry sold him to Portsmouth.. Paul Hart was manager of Portsmouth at the time.
