Even though we paid between £12-16m for him and he only scored 11 goals in 40 games?

Keane was fantastic for those first 6 years, but we shouldn't have bought him back.

You fail to mention we sold him for £20m, selling him for £7m means we've made £5m-£8m profit overall on Keane transfer fees, for a player that has done so much for the club then we've done well.

Well technically we sold him for 20M and bought him back for 12-16, so any profit we make on him is pure profit from the balance sheet point of view, so it really is a good deal for us.

I agree we shouldn't have brought him back though.

Would be happy with any of Carroll, Llorente or Barrios (or Benzema or Torres, obviously). I can't see Liverpool or Real Madrid selling their strikers in January with little chance to replace them adequately and I do believe the sources that say Llorente is all but a Madrid player in the summer, it just feels right. I hope that we might get Carroll in now with the Keane money to sort our target man issues, then we can replace Crouch and/or Pav with someone like Torres, Suarez or Benzema in the summer, potentially.

I juat cannot see Newcastle selling their star player to us in January. Not seen enough to comment on his ability to take us to the next level, but I would be underwhelmed if it happened.
I can't see it either I suppose it all depends on the cash offered. I assume one of the players would be Bentley and it looks like Keane going elsewhere perhaps Woodgate?

Absolutely spot on. Hope it happens and keano gets a regular chance to play again. Great servant to our club.

I think people should forget Barrios til at least the summer too. Dortmund are not going to jeopardize their best chance to win the Bundesliga for yonks at this point in time, for any amount of cash. Money may talk in the summer, but not now.

I really hope so mate. The impression I got though, was that Harry is concentrating on the team solely. Levy already knows the players that Harry likes, and like it was said by someone else, it wouldnt surprise me if Levy does another VDV. Comes back to Harry and says...."Harry I can get xxxx for £xxx what'dya reckon?" the only problem then is I'm out of the loop!

 i wouldn't worry about being out of the loop mate, i'd love another 'vdv' out of the blue signing.

Tbh i'm glad that Harry is focusing on the team and levy is sorting the buying, both doing what they do best. Sounds like there might be legs on this Carroll deal now, from levy's point of view he's selling Keane for 7mil so Carroll will presumably only cost about 6-8mil on top of that, not a bad deal. Doubt Carroll will be on keano's wages as well.

Would still love a Benzema or a Torres but i'll take a Carroll for a Keane quite happily

I guess a few players could be an option, but Newcastle would have to replace him with a very similar player to fit their system. If I was a newcastle fan I would be campaigning outside mike ashleys house as his goals/assists are the only reason they are where they are in the league.

I saw Carroll once when they were in the Championship and said we should buy him (and Doyle as well)!

The lad is quality, a bit of an animal, but quality! I would swap Crouch and Keane for Carroll and Doyle all day long...............

exactly what i was thinking. Have we not crossed the ball more than any other team this year?

Carroll is phenomenol inside the 18 yard box. Can you imagine meeting to negotiate?
I'd just put on an hour and a half dvd of lennon and bale down each wing (with a bonus beckham dvd), walk in with a pen and say "sign here lad!!!"

Think I could live with Carroll coming in now and then an elite/marquee #9 following in the summer.

Sort of a Mido before Berbatov (to replace Kanoute) type of thing.

I think when we play Barca at Wembley in may we should just play Crouch and Carroll up top. and bomb the box. Thier midgets wont cope

Then I read this

Carroll has stated he is staying at Newcastle! If it was ManUnited coming in for him....that may tempt a player.....but Spurs PPPFFFFTTTT! pmsl!!

Have to say I really want us to sign him now, if only to see their fans outside St James park up in arms about it and complaining on SSN.

He would be effective for us I am sure, I'd personally perfer something more skill orientated but as said above the likes of Torres are not going to happen and thsi could well be our best option, especially this window.

Better than Crouch and Pav and if he plays a role in getting past Milan and coming top four again this year his fee would be jusitifed.

I think you are too hard on them. Man United have won countless titles, as we know, you can be pretty circumspect when the likes of them take your best player. We are yet too win anything consistently in my lifetime, I understand their pain if it comes to pass.
