Rudiger reportedly turned down 200k a week to stay at Chelsea so you honestly think the club will pay him more then kane son and lloris?

If his wage packet ushers in new higher deals for Son Kane and Lloris as your post suggests then that would really be a statement of intent.

With a Bosman you can structure it differently, with a lower base salary and then a big signing on bonus that you write off as akin to the transfer fee. It’s unlikely, bit you never know.

I think it’s clear we need a good 5-6 players to make the squad competitive rather than just the first eleven. To do that, we probably will have to get creative, bring in a few free agents, and then sell players to fund other targets.
Eg, if Reguillon is wanted in Spain and we could get someone like McNeil for a lower fee which also helps the HG numbers, it may be a decent trade off in the bigger picture. Likewise I would look at letting Bergwijn go and bring in someone like Brereton-Diaz for the backup forward, free transfer, HG quota. Having bought in two HG players we could then afford to sell Winks and go after someone like Kamara or Grillitsch to add more presence in midfield, both available free, meaning excess cash could then go to LCB, RWB and another CF.

Might just be me but I don’t want Rudiger at all. It’s absolutely nothing to do with him mishearing a chant and thinking it was racism. From all I’ve seen he is another proper football mercenary, I don’t actually think we have any of those in current squad. For that reason I don’t think he is a good fit. I think having those sort of players doesn’t help when your backs against the wall, which it will be at times.

No way would I want Reggie to go, he has that love for the club that Lamela has.
If we were going to get rid of one surely it would have to be Sess? As much as he looked like he was improving he’s so incredibly injury prone. Considering how much our WB will be rotating next season with PL, Europe and the domestic cups we will need each of them to be fit

I guess Haaland is a greedy **** too this summer, and Mbappe, and all the rest that are making sure they get the best deal for themselves.

Think it's fairly agreed footballers in general are greedy bastards anyway, but trying to get a signing on package of 30m on top of 200k a week wages is just insane.

True but that's implying he wasn't going to get a hefty signing on fee if he stayed at Chelsea. We won't be able to offer more than them which means it would be mad if he ever left to join us

I think it's unfair to say he's a football mercenary. He's had 3 different clubs his entire career, and always seems to leave everything on the pitch. He's going into has last big pay day now, so as with all footballers he's going to max out his position.

He's always going to be a divisive player though, same as lamela, and probably Romero now in the league that opposition fans will always hate them, but their own fan's love them.

Against Madrid the other night in Europe he was fully committed to every battle, and was properly giving out to Kante etc about poor passes. He actually seemed to be one of the few that cared, and that's with a contract ending this season? Normally players just sit back and coast so as not to get injured etc, but he's a winner through and through.

That said, can't see him coming here. The money he's looking us pretty crazy, but if Conte thinks he could convince him, it would be a real statement of intent to the rest of the league.

Yep. The only thing that matters is if it is within our budget and if the player is a good enough professional to care enough to perform.

If stories about high signing on fees are true then I believe the amount to bring in Rudiger will be too much for what we'd get back.

Thought Lamptey was lively today. Took up good positions and whipped in a couple of good crosses too. Defensively was solid too and his speed is electric.

But don’t think he’s anywhere near the £50mil that’s been quoted by some. That’s ludicrous

I was underwhelmed tbh. He was okay and worked hard but I didn’t feel like he stood out. He has potential for sure but he should stay at Brighton for another season imo.

Yeah he didn’t pull up any trees today imo, a decent wingback would have done more.
