Steve Sidwell will quit Chelsea at the end of the season and sign for West Ham in a shock £5million deal.

Midfield dynamo Sidwell joined the Stamford Bridge jet set on a free transfer only last summer.

But the former Reading star has had enough of Chelsea after being axed from their Champions League squad in a snub that marked his card about the future.

Hammers boss Alan Curbishley has been put on alert and is willing to match his lucrative £3m-a-year contract.

Sidwell featured in Avram Grant's side when they were without their Africa Cup of Nations stars, but has since been quietly offered around.

Sunderland, Blackburn and Bolton were all interested - but Sidwell's future is at Upton Park.

He doesn't care, he's made his money and now when he moves he can demand the same amount (unless Newcastle buy him and they'll probably double his wages).

I've seen Sidwell a couple of times this season for Chelsea and he's been woeful. Completely out of his depth. Think Chelsea will be laughing if they get 5m for him and Sidwell will be laughing if he gets 3m a year.

Curbishley is going to use a hefty slice of Icelandic mafia money to match Steve Sidwell's ridiculously overinflated Bosman wages, and pay Chelski a £5 million transfer fee?!?!?

:rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

I'm laughing.

Roman's rolling around on the floor guffawing.

And the Russian mob, once their ribs have recovered, will be looking to set up an office in Reykjavik to relieve the Icelanders of even more of their cash...

75k?

My calculations make it just under 60k...? My maths sucks tho

IF he goes for that much, I think both Chelski and Sidwell himself will piss theirselves!

I think Gudmundsson may have more serious worries about Russians than that.

Well, when international, ahem, "businessmen" like the Spammer's real owner, Björgólfur Guðmundsson, are involved, it's hard to know quite what's going on.

This article certainly suggests the Icelanders & the Russians share a few common interests:

I can't believe any competent businessman would regard £5 million plus ridiculous Bosman wages as fair market price for Steve Sidwell.

I do know that an examination of EPL owners suggests that "fit and proper person" now means precisely its opposite.

I was gonna start a new thread but luckily I did a search first to avoid getting in trouble!

I was referring back to my backlog of books of the football bible that is The PFA Footballers' Who's Who (Edited by Barry J. Hugman) a fantastic read I might add...

Anyways back to topic, I reckon Sidwell would be a fantastic signing for Spurs:

- He's got a good engine on him, which I reckon would suit our new high tempo / high fitness type of play alongside Jenas

- He's a holding midfielder (I believe)

- He's a good tackler

- He scored 4 goals for Reading last season (not bad for a dm) and when he played well they played well

- He hasn't been great for Chelsea this term but look at it another way, Chelsea seem to be good at making class players crap... Plus he hasn't had many chances (I think his dad is a Chelsea fan too which may have been a factor in him going, not just for the huge pay package - he was very loyal to Reading throughout the years)

- Hopefully he wouldn't be too expensive (depending how stupid / greedy Chelsea wanna be... oh dear maybe I should scratch that one...)

I believe Gudmundsson may have worries about contracting a fatal dose of lead poisoning should he step foot outside Iceland.

'Fit and proper' indeed.

Or he may start glowing in the dark and setting off random geiger counters...
