Chairman has been in place 20 years so obviously must be pretty influential. He’s Austrian, hopefully some connections with Rapid who I’m sure would rather a lucrative glamour tie Vs us than Vitesse

Yeah I was (wishful) thinking along the same lines!

Whilst we seemingly had 13 A-list players not injured or stricken with COVID, I’d have presumed the club have said that a further number have to isolate on the basis that every day we were getting Positive PCR results for players that trained that day and tested negative the day prior - especially if any were Omicron and UK rules stated that all close contacts had to isolate regardless of vaccination status.

Yep, I reckon the club are going to argue along these lines. It's not going to be a simple decision to make.
None of the three clubs have done anything wrong. Maybe Rennes could have been more flexible, but they won't see it like that I guess. In any case it's going to be hard to throw them out, as even a 3 0 forfeit sees them stay first

This really isn’t much difference to the Orient game last season.

I really, really want to go out of this as I think it will really help us in the league.

But I also think we definitely should forfeit if they can’t find a date before the deadline. Although clearly they should be able to if Rennes don’t have a game after 22/12, so if they are being awkward I assume that’s what the hold up is. UEFA will make them play

The big difference with this is that the next round of fixtures isn't until February, nothing like the turnaround for the Carabao Cup.

not the same.

there's two months until the next round of europa games, there wasn't even a week between orient and the next round so couldn't be rescheduled without there being a big knock-on effect.

Well yeah, and if UEFA decide to let the game be played at any point up until the next round then fair enough but as it stands there would’ve been about 10 days from when we were able to play the game and the French winter break. Therefore, what’s the difference?

Not really sure why this would take 5 days to make a decision on, seems like nobody is in that much of a hurry which just highlights there’s 2 months till the next round and it’s a bit ridiculous there can’t be some flexibility by Uefa or Rennes. I guess we will have to present some medical evidence above that I’m really not sure what they are waiting for to make a decision. Surely this could be thrashed it an hour of negotiation/discussion.

Yep, it would be great to get a decision today. If we go out, we can press for Leicester postponement knowing we have plenty of free dates. If we go through or replay then it's up to the club to decide priorities, because hard to believe we can win this and get top 4

why do you believe that? you gain momentum by winning football matches it breeds confidence and adds to a general good feeling around the football club - by my reckoning if you get to the final you are talking about 9 games extra - the team needs to harden up if they can't cope with two games a week its whats expected of them -

football is only tiring when you are losing games its an excuse a mentality, the teams that get to the final and win leagues don't have that because there winners they cope with playing twice a week and winning that's what we need to aspire to not think it might get a bit tough so we give up on a competition that should be winnable in a hope that the same players who you are feeding excuses to might suddenly perform

I now want us to stay in this shit having seen we should be able to progress past wein with just a few first teamers needing to play

Maybe I'm placing too much importance on coefficient points but think we will regret not getting more for this season. We are currently joint 13th but our score of 21 in 17/18 will be gone as its last 5 years and will be replaced with 5 points which is a massive difference

Does anyone know how many points you get for winning this shit?

I keep seeing how our absence would devalue the competition and, frankly, all I can say is 'balderdash'.

Firstly, when Portsmouth won the FA Cup, or Greece the Euros, or Villarreal the Europa, did we all think 'yeah, but x got knocked out early on, so that means shit'. No. We didn't.

Secondly, if this devaluation comment is based on European pedigree, well, there are four European Cup Winners in the draw, so, on that basis, we don't even deserve to make the semis. Alternatively, if we're going on current coefficient, then, yes, Roma and Spurs do make the final (and we lose). Spurs and Roma are the most competent non-achievers of the last five years. Whoop-de-fucking-do.

Not that I trust Spurs to get there anyway. Dinamo Zagreb, anyone? Gent? The combined might of PAOK and Rubin Kazan? I quite welcome getting knocked out by UEFA's ethics committee. It'll be a damned sight less embarrassing than those nights of ignominy, that's for sure.

And, finally, when they launched the competition, UEFA made a big deal about clubs who'd never got to a European final finally having a chance. I appreciate Basel v Copenhagen might not be the greatest glamour tie in world football, but just think how excited you'd be if you followed one of those clubs and they made a European final for the first time. That - for me - is what the Conference League should be all about. It shouldn't just exist to provide a second-tier trophy for the best of a bunch of above-average under-achievers.

Balderdash....is a word I like to see used more often as I feel it is underappreciated, so kudos to you for using it, Nine.

Hard to disagree with what you've said above and I must admit I don't like the 'uefa want us in the competition as it'll add value to it' comments, it all feels very 'RAWKY' and quite cringe worthy if I'm honest.

But by the same logic, we refuse to play vs Burnley and get 3 points? As they couldn't fulfil the fixture due to inadequate pitch with no under soil heating.

I get that we are the reason the game didn't go ahead to start with, but if Rennes refuse to play as they wanted the game to play then it needs to be looked at more.

Did we have enough players? If we did we lose
If we didn't have enough players did UEFA agree for it to be rearranged? If they didn't we lose
If UEFA agreed was there a date both clubs could play, if not we lose!
If there was a date and one team is refusing, tat team loses.
It has been pointed out several times that Burnley do have undersoil heating, and it was operational before the game, but it is not designed to deal with heavy snow.

Yup new competition I’m sure they’d love a Spurs Vs Roma final.

Personally I think that there are much better teams than Roma left in this competition, now that we have Leicester, Marseille (2nd in Ligue 1) and PSV (top of Eredivisie) joining. Celtic will also be one to watch.

This competition won't be a walk in the park like some are assuming

Or the flip side is that he wants the easiest route possible for prize money/progression and thus wants us out

We're struggling to even qualify from our group so it's far from easy. Still a long way to go yet before thinking we could win. I think we only stand a chance if we play our best team or largely our best team. We would need to make only a few changes between these games and league games to stay competitive. We essentially need to treat it similar to champions league. The trouble is when we've played Europa League in the past we tend to rotate too much and we're doing the same with this. When people say we could win this type of competition its with our best team in mind. Will we pick our best though?

Also most games that are called off due to snow are because of health and safety reasons and to stop fans travelling, not because of the pitch itself.
