Offsides really shouldn't be calculated based on milimetres and multiple camera angles being fed into an algorithm.

This. The biggest problem with VAR is exactly that. There is nothing unfair about scoring a goal after having been 2cm offside, in the way that it's unfair scoring a goal after hand-balling it or after a bad tackle. NO ONE would have complained if this goal was allowed, I wouldn't even have cared if his entire lower leg was offisde. The goal was scored fair and square, and VAR isn't doing anything to make the game more just atm.
