I know there's a lot of praise in the thread for Newcastle but the same people doing so would be slating us were the shoe on the other foot. Here's how it would go:

We had no control of the game for the opening 30 mins, conceding around 10-11 shots. Cowardly.

We then get a lucky goal from a hopeful punt, ref usually blows up for that 9/10. Then a bit of individual brilliance makes it two.

We then let them back to 2-1 second half and to be fair grind it out with some time wasting and game management. We should be aiming higher than that though and scoring 3 or 4 from the position at HT. It's not sustainable.

Newcastle looked decent and full of hunger and looked more comfortable on the ball, but that was far from impressive from them IMO. Far cry from the absolute paddling that Utd gave us.

Too many players at the club that have let multiple managers down via poor technique and/or mentality. Conte has got a decent tune out of most but I think he's starting to realise now.

Club needs to back him in January.

How anyone can praise Newcastle is beyond me. The ball was in play for 53 minutes! 53 minutes! A premier league record low. If fans were told that before the game kicks off, I wouldn't go. What's the point spending my hard earned money to watch that???

The managing of the game was awful by the referee. I thought they were meant to be stopping all the time wasting.
I relinquished my season ticket a while ago now, but if that is true 53 minutes is bad. About a pound a minute?

The officiating was terrible yesterday. The ref just looked out of his depth from the kick off. No idea who he was, but I don't want to see him again. One of the worst decisions was perisic getting fouled near the end and he gave the free kick the other way! Just so so bad.

Am guessing you were at the game so didn't get the benefit of a replay but Perisic was the one who committed the foul even though in real time viewing it looked for all the world to be the other way around.

But yes the ref was terrible yesterday and Newcastles time wasting really was a disgrace.

Wow. A stop clock seriously needs to be considered at this point.

Thought we started the game quite well with plenty of attacks, chances for Sonny & Harry but then came the Hugo howler, there was really no excuse for him not putting his boot through the ball , the resulting collision with Wilson would then certainly have been given in Hugo's favour.
On the time wasting it really is time for stop clock football , time for FIFA & IFAB to act..

Newcastle deserve no praise for anything they do. We did this dance with City pretending that they were interesting and look where that got us.

I think 53 minutes is the average for a premier league match mate. Last season the low was 41 mins (Brentford v West Ham). Not sure what yesterday's was but can imagine it being under 50 for sure.

We have faced 187 shots in the Prem this season, only Everton (192) have faced more. I prefer not to focus on the XG of the shots faced but the fact that the more shots you face, even if they are long range speculative efforts, the more chance there is of a worldy or a deflection. And if your opponents are allowed to regularly pepper efforts on your goal what does that do for their confidence and how is that factored in? (Perhaps we need a CF = Confidence Factor!!!)

Seems to be a lot of people commenting who couldnt have watched the game. Keep going on about us sitting in our own half, inviting pressure and shots raining in on us and thats not what happened at all.
I know we've stunk places out sometimes this season but yesterday was not one of those games. It wasn't boring and yes it was enjoyable despite the defeat. I'm actually more optimistic after that than I was after that Man U display.
You can play well, be the better team and still lose you know.

Almost forgot, a giant thank you to the 2 top blokes, father and son, who helped get me and my Dad out of White Hart Lane station and back to Cheshunt, via Northumberland Park, as the line was closed due to obstruction. We would have been fucked as I didnt have a back up plan and with my 76yr old Dad needing a walking stick (Harry Cane) I was getting very concerned about what we were gonna do. I don't know the area very well.
Life savers. They were from Birmingham, or that way (not originally). On the off chance somebody knows them or if you're reading this, thank you both so much. They kindly walked with us instead of bombing off and my Dad doesnt move as fast now as when he played lol.
So glad it wasn't hammering down. Doesn't bear thinking about.

Why do they never add on the real amount of time?

If the board was saying 15 minutes these time wasters would think twice.

Basically there's no real deterrent in place so it will keel happening

I watched some of the Barcelona/Bilbao game and the commentators remarked how the norm in La Liga now is 5 mins added to the first half and 8+ for the second. If that, or even more, we’re routinely added would that go some way towards effectively discouraging time wasting? If players knew every second they wasted would simply be added back on they’d surely get the picture, you’d hope.
