Not sure I agree with that. He kept us in the game with a couple of good saves.

He means he was weak for the goal specifically, and maybe he was, but "weakness" is irrelevant; that's a foul on Vic given the standards football has laid down for years. Allowing it is inconsistency.

No complaints from me. The goal was weak though. We needed somebody to muscle Dias away from Vicario. Either that or put someone on the near post.
Agreed. That and not finding Werner. Felt wasteful at times and a missed opportunity.

I thought the performance was equal to the level of players we had out there.

Our front 3 lacked any real quality.

Not our best midfield.

The Cheats turned up and defended well, andvthere superior footballers edged it.
Yeah I really dont't see how it was 'shambolic' that is such an overexaggeration.

We were full of effort and our build-up was great at times, unfortunately we were badly let down by the attack and midfield, which as you say was kinda expected.

I actually thought we weathered the storm (first 20 mins) and gained a foothold without really creating.

Second half we were better and started to pin them back but Pep realised it was time to bring on De Bruyne and he completely swung it back in their favour.

We don't have all the answers yet and I think this summer we may need surgery in attack and more linking players.

None of Rcharlison, Werner and Johnson can create their own chances and Deki struggled centrally against a team that are really sharp to balls between.

Skipp and Hojbjerg are just far too limited. You'll get moments and decent passes but then a few moves down the line they won't be able to execute the crucial pass.

Also, Son really stretches that City backline with his runs in the channels, Richy prefers to drop.

Badly missed Lo Celso, Maddison, Sarr and Son tonight.

Hojbjerg was actually really good for the majority of the game. He just had those two really piss poor moments within the space of a minute that could've gifted City a couple of goals. Skipp was also good after he came on and was heavily involved in a couple of good passages of play. If we are looking at individuals then I'd just say that Udogie and Deki were really poor at using the ball tonight. Werner was marginalised all game but he made run after run that was ignored.

A big thing we need to do though is learn to foul properly. City pressed us well but when we got past them they did not hesitate to make the foul and stop the game. Bernado got away with a blatant one in the first half on Deki, Kovacic took a yellow for stopping us from running at their back four and Dias fouled Richarlison constantly. When City played through the first line of our press we let them progress all the way to our 18 yard box.

Exactly.

I guarantee we see one of those given as a foul in coming weeks.

Still missing a core. I’m a bit pissed off so trying to excuse the performance.

don't think it's just timidness per se...
city's tactical fouling and press stunted our rhythm as well. Unfortunately they were just better overall on the day

An element of that , I agree. But personally think we weren't brave enough in the final 3rd and delayed passes all night

Maybe just a coincidence but always feel like are football is disjointed and lacks rhythm when he plays. Does some stuff well in isolation but think we missed Bisoumma in there and obviously Son up top.

Yep, without Bissouma and/or Sarr in midfield we lack aggression, strength, energy and athleticism.

Hojbjerg had a decent game with the exception of the almost fatal mistake at the end but on the other hand we couldn’t get the ball off City and we had zero control in central midfield. Bissouma and Sarr would have been harassing the City players all game.

Those City subs particularly De Bruyne were the difference. Their strength in depth is ridiculous, could see those were the aces they had from the beginning and the fact we were outplayed doesn't help. Playing out from the back is great but at crucial times it seems sucidal if players like Hojbjerg tire.

Another trophyless season is so gutting and could have done with a lower level team at home in all honesty. One consolation is at least Spurs haven't got 150+ financial charges piled up against them. The Citeh fans best do the Poznan then lol.

Although I do realise Joe Lewis's trading is one best to look away from as well. It's a murky world when football and money collide. Still us fans will keep living in hope for silverware just another year that it slides away - crap.

Some of you make me laugh. We played tonight against one of the top 5 teams in world football. Did we dominate? No, but who the fuck does against a team that takes off a World Cup winner to bring on De Bruyne?

We were good defensively (until the end obviously), competitive in midfield but our linkup and front play just wasn’t quite there tonight.

Swap Timo and Richi for Son and Kane and maybe we’ve got a chance. Ange is good but quality of players matters.

Just have to accept that City were excellent tonight, really really good. We did fine I thought, defended excellently but lacked a cutting edge.

They gave us the run around tonight and made us look leggy, too many factors against us tonight
We'll be better for it though with more minutes in the legs for Bents, Mickey Timo and Maddison (who looked well off the pace)

Compare their bench to ours tells you all you need to know. We are just not at that level, not sure what people are expecting.
💯 most their bench would’ve started for us tonight.

We are in a process but whilst they have so much depth and quality and can miss players, against a team like that we can’t afford to.

This summer we need to get the following 6 players to get anywhere near City’s level/depth.
  • 4th CB option
  • PEH & Skipp upgrade
  • Lo Celso replacement
  • Sign Werner on a perm
  • Upgrade on Gil
  • Another top attacking option and/or upgrade on Richy e.g. Vhalovic

Weirdly if Sonny was making those runs the balls would have been played.

Dynamics I suppose.
I agree, and I'm not saying they would have led to goals or big chances but by not trying it we'll now never know, the players knew Sonny wasn't available so the players have to realised that.
