R.E. the red card. Remind 1st pulls Dele back outside wich the ref plays an advantage, he then stumbles into Dele inside the box trying to stop him scoring.

This is what Mike yiddo Dean saw

Nothing wrong with venting and ranting during a game of football. It's a roller-coaster, it's supposed to be. The match thread is just an articulation of the game at that specific moment in time. Being a football supporter is a ridiculous pastime really. Let off some steam, whatever.

But don't dwell on the ropey first 15 minutes of a good comfortable win once it has stopped being relevant.

I think the person writing the post thinks they're one of "Churchills few" :D
We were shit for the first 15min so people posted about it. I didnt but can understand why.
Perhaps close the thread until after the game to prevent real time comments?
Then we can all look clever after the event.
Fans are passionate and so over react both for good and bad so most of the time its ALL bo##$$#s :)
And whats wrong with that? Doesnt matter a jot.
Oh i'm not one of 'the few' and I regularly admit it, but i'd bet both my bollocks you think you are. We weren't 'shit' against Burnley yet people were the same so if you think its all just about last night, well.........and its not about looking 'clever' because there's not much of that going on either, it's about being sensible. Another pair of shoes that don't fit. Personally, I don't want to hear "I'm done with spurs" from some emotionally stunted halfwit who can't take the fact that we had the bare faced cheek to let a goal in and I don't want to hear that Eriksen or whoever is a **** because they gave the ball away and then defend it to death afterwards........And I double get bored with people who confuse and excuse rank stupidity with being passionate.

I thought it was (obviously) a very good win. During the game, the comments in this thread in no way accurately reflect what's actually happening on the pitch so lurking in here for an idea as to how we're playing is a complete waste of time. The over exaggeration is astonishing. The standard every performance is judged by is 'perfect' anything less and we seem to be 'shit'. Going a goal down results in a sudden switching on of a curious kind of cyber depression and we're 'boring' or 'lacking creativity' yet one of the commentators said we've the second most chances created (or shots) in the league.

I'm pretty sure the number of people who actually know what they are talking about in here is very very low and i'm double sure that every person reading this will think they are one of Churchill's "few" :D
To offer a constructive counterpoint: surely the match threads aren't supposed to be a dry, emotionless recitation of the facts? The BBC has a service that offers precisely that, with no commentary.

I see the match threads as a reflection of what I hear when I see a game live: some people are louder than others in their praise or criticism, and some are more reasonable than others, but everyone's reacting in the moment, not with perfect, objective hindsight. People rarely sit there and observe totally impassively. Emotion is a huge part of sport, and that + the internet (where everything is already one extreme or the other) = what you get in match threads. They will never be anything else.

Also, everyone's entitled to their opinions, and "lacking creativity" isn't necessarily mutually exclusive with us having had the second-most (or whatever) shots in the league. E.g. we might take a lot of pot-shots from outside the box, rather than "creatively" getting in on goal through clever, incisive passing.

None of this bothers me, but I do draw the line at anyone who insults fellow fans. Yesterday, someone posted, after we had got back on top, about how this would shut the "bedwetters" up. Yes, sticks and stones, but we're all on the same side, and I find that unnecessary and needlessly mean-spirited.

I get upset when we play badly and make costly mistakes but I try not to rant about it too much. I always look for the positives and give praise when it's merited. Footballers aren't machines, they are imperfect human beings but then so are we and we are prone to moments of passion and frustration too. It's all part of the beautiful game - even when it turns a bit ugly.

What do u mean 'how do you improve if you don't ...' ?...no ones printing this thread to send to the team for them to take notes from fella, it's mainly the rantings of sad, lonely people who don't have anyone to watch the match with.

Why ever not?
Thought that was one of A&C's many jobs.
That's it for me in that case
I won't bother any more

That isn't at all what I am talking about or asking for :)
Not directly, sure :) I empathise with your wanting more considered, moderate, realistic and reflective posts in match threads; I also don't think it's possible or realistic for everyone to do that, particularly in the heat of the moment.

I read it that he accepts that we post in the match thread when our brains are in a temporary state of fart emitting nonsense but would rather people switched back to normal afterwards, enjoy a 4-1 win and not labour negative points too much.

On the game, I have just seen the penalty incident and to be honest I don't get the red card argument, if it is a penalty then it is a red card end of, I'll take an argument against the penalty because it could look to some people like he just fell, he might have done but he made sure he fell onto Dele so I'll go with the penalty too.

Was watching it with my dad and brother last night.

As soon as Saints scored, although I was annoyed at conceding so so early, it was that. EARLY. We had pretty much a full game to turn it around. Sloppy for 15 minutes but once Alli headed us level I wasn't so bad. Though Lloris' misplaced pass and header were a but worrying..

On the whole we were the much better side between the equaliser and the penalty anyway.

Danny Rose gets a special mention though. What a beast at left back. Has quickly become my favourite player. Love his tenacity, his drive, his passion and his energy. When he's in full flow he's hard to stop. Plus he has improved the defensive side of his game immensely. Best LB in the country, not a doubt in my mind.

Seems van Dijk scuffed up the pen spot with his studs while Redmond was getting sent off, he did the same for an Arsenal pen earlier in the season

I never said it was a fluke. I said it was heavily deflected, which it was.

I never said you did, but you have joined in a conversation where a poster did. Nor have I said that the deflection didn't help, I said it turned a good pass into a great opportunity.

Anyway, I think that'll do.
