I actually thought Siggy did start the season well, certainly better than Dempsey - but AVB chose to persist with the useless American instead. He was the woodworks width from as number of goals at the start of the season, but he has a composure in the final 3rd which none of our midfielders have. VDV had it, but for me this guy could be better, I genuinely believe that.

Completely screwed over by Bale coming into the middle. If Bale persists with the right hand side then Sig will have a great chance to claim that AM spot. Play him there for a full season and he will grab you 15 goals most likely.

Would love to see the Ade of last night with Sig playing behind him, on a permanent basis

Loving this guy as each week passes and another important goal from the Ice man. Took him a while to get to grips with life at Spurs but since given a chance by AVB, he has taken it brilliantly and has been among our best players in 2013. I think this guy will be a massive player for us next season and still only 23. Siggy we love you

I expect him to be first XI next year, love this guy :D

Great to see him proving a lot of people wrong who earlier in the season said he simply isn't good enough after being here for 5 minutes, often coming on as a sub AND out of position.

His movement off the ball and ability with it is miles better than Holtby and he's more useful than Lennon IMO.

I'd have him in the front 3. He has to play more.

We turned down a £10M bid for him from Reading in the January window so it's clear he is in AVB's plans. Swansea, Hoffenheim and Reading used him primarily in an attacking central midfield role and he was a prolific goalscorer for all of them. Of course we have a certain Welshman favouring that position currently as well as an aging American so he hasn't had much of a chance to play in the position in which he made his reputation. He is our best free kick taker after Bale and at 23 the same age. I think we he may be in Levy's mind as a replacement for Bale should someone wave £60-70M in our direction. While Siggy lacks Bale's blinding pace he has similar attributes with his shooting and free kicks so it might just soften the blow when the boy wonder eventually departs.

Personally I think that next season Bale will stay and Townsend will rival Lennon for a place on the wing. I also think we'll finally sign Leandro Damiao (yeah, I know ... ) who is the sort of goal poaching striker who would suit our attack. I think that an attacking front 4 of Bale, Siggy, Townsend behind LD is a mouthwatering prospect.

I've always been a Siggy fan, I think playing behind a loan front man (and Defoe at that) really hurt him, because he is not someone who is the focal point of an attack, he is the person he finishes a move off.

In the middle, especially in an advanced midfield role, he gets lost and does not have the vision or physicality to either be a number 10 a la van der Vaart or a deep target man we can play up to. He prefers seeing the game develop and to then get onto the end of things, and that is what he has been able to do since playing on the left of midfield.

It's still not perfect, he can leave us very narrow and leave the left full back with no one to pass to, but he is getting more and more into the kinds of positions where he can be dangerous, and I think it is no surprise he is weighing in with a lot of goals now.

With Lennon not looking completely fit and Stoke's giants to deal with on sunday, I think Siggy should start left, Bale right, Adebayor upfront.

I loved the way he scored, but didn't bask in the glory but was trying to get everyone back in our own half and try to win the game. Brilliant attitude

Dood is a sniper at the ACM spot. Has a helluva long shot too, with either foot. Decent eye for a pass. Like a poor mans Huntelaar at this point, but only 23 and with room to polish his game. He's a "must keep" player for me.

That's reliant on us continuing to play

.......CM CM
LW ACM RW
.......ST

It seems likely we'll end up playing

...CM CM CM
RF ST LF

Depending on who we sign I guess - but I always got the impression this was how AVB envisages us playing

Where would Sig fit in in such a set up?

He could easily be the ACM in the first line up

I guess he could be one of a midfield 3 in the second - the more advanced player with Sandro and Dembele

He'd probably be the LF in the second setup no?

Answered your own question! There's not too much difference between the advanced man in the midfield 4-3-3 and the AM in the 4-2-3-1. Both those positions, and the two wide men in the 4-3-3 will be expected to drop deeper at times

I doubt he would feature as a starter there - it would leave him as a rotation/cover player in my eyes

I think the 4-3-3 means the wide players have less defensive duties and are more advanced meaning more work - more of a traditional midfield role than the AM would get in the 4-2-3-1. Sig is more of a VDV position player just off the striker

We'll see - perhaps I am greatly over thinking the tactically differences
