He turned Luiz inside out near the end as well, completely sent him the wrong way and left him for dead. Very nice.

Luiz listening to AVB's instructions and nodding was funny though.

I doubt he would feature as a starter there - it would leave him as a rotation/cover player in my eyes

I think the 4-3-3 means the wide players have less defensive duties and are more advanced meaning more work - more of a traditional midfield role than the AM would get in the 4-2-3-1. Sig is more of a VDV position player just off the striker

We'll see - perhaps I am greatly over thinking the tactically differences

In essence, I think with both formations, they can effectively become 4-5-1s very quickly when needed, thus being very similar. You are right though, the CAM in the 4-2-3-1 is a bit more attacking than the the most advanced midfielder out of the middle 3 in a 4-3-3

In my eyes, we have such a good platform for next season, Siggy having a full season at spurs (who I agree will be a massive player for us next season) and moving back into a more comfortable position (AM) where i think he is best, the rise of Townsend for wing cover/ potential starter, Rose who has been immense at Sunderland (I didn't rate him at all time this season), Holtby getting a full pre-season in with us and a chance to work on the technical side of his game, The comeback of Kaboul and Sandro, Dembele to come back to his best after injuries, The prolific and almighty Bale to be banging them in left right and centre, the possible promotion of a few academy players (haven't seen the games enough to comment on who) and hopefully a few new signings (Strikers x2, Creative CM, and possible LB cover depending on Ekotto situation.)

Overall I am looking forward to a cracking CHAMPIONS LEAGUE campaign next season and hopefully a nice little trophy as well as top 4.

Becoming a better and better player all the time. Great attitude and willingness to accept any role within the team. Looking forward to seeing AVB experiment with him as a false number nine in pre-season too.

He's a finisher that's for sure, he also seems technically sound and I think he will grow into a Gudjohnsen type player

I suppose him developing into a better player makes our summer transfers look better - for the long term : Lloris, Vertonghen, Dembele and Sig are all looking like good and shrewd signings

Dempsey was a waste of time signing but that just smacked of last minute desperation

I hope this summer we move to replace the quality we lost in VdV and Modric, more than anything I hope we already know who we want and who we can realistically sign to fill the roles we want filled. No more treading water all window then making some desperate moves last minute hoping to pick up a bargain

Statement:

Holtby on this seasons showing.

Is gash.

You say some silly stuff Bear. Like when you scoffed when I suggested that given a crack Sigurdsson would almost certainly prove to be worth more to a team than Dempsey.

Holtby is not gash. He's a long way from gash. He's a dynamic, technically efficient, tenacious kid who contributed more to our cause lately than you are giving him credit for. One of the reasons we stayed in that game last night when the going was decidedly tricky was his endeavour and work rate. He saw as much ball as Parker for example and about the same as Hudd while he was on the pitch.

So he isn't VDV. He isn't doing much that's spectacular. OK. Doesn't make him gash or worthless to a team.

I think we will just have to take Dempsey's goals, some important winners, suck it up, wince a little and pray Levy sends him on his way in the summer..

Re Sigurdsson. He's clearly got some ability. He should never be behind Dempsey in the reckoning (then again neither should have our youth team). I don't think he'll ever be top drawer in any of the positions he needs to play in, but he is a very good, Kranjcar type option for a team.

I like his willingness to work for the team as well. He gets a bit lost some games, but he does try to help his full back and midfield defensively.

Good to have in a squad, and he's only young.

Looks to have trimmed down too BC, seems to be quicker across the ground than before Christmas, bit more confidence about him also.. i agree, quality squad player..

he scored 8 goals for spurs so far !!

He took last nights goal very well indeed, cracking finish.

Sig gets an easier ride on this forum than Dempsey it seems. Worth noting the yank has 11 goals this season though. Me thinks he isn't glamourous enough when people discuss who should play out of the pair. I believe they are of a similar standard right now.
Not sure either will be first team stalwarts next season but both are good options ( I like the Kranjcar comparison with Sig )

I'd imagine that's because Dempsey is very Defoe-esque in that if he doesn't score he's a total and utter liability and offers nothing to the team. Gylfi is tenacious, hard working and really can play.

What position was he playing when he came on against chelsea? my stream was awful...

Having a look at the possible midfield lineups if Sigurdsson is to be a starter:

433:

Sigurdsson ---------- Sandro ------------- Dembele

For me, this lacks guile, passing ability and creativity.
Im not sure if he is creative enough to be the third man in that midfield. I would much prefer someone who can dictate our tempo who is primarily a creator to join the solid duo of Sandro and Dembele.

OR

-------- Sandro ----------------- Dembele ----------

--- Bale --------- Sigurdsson ----------- Lennon ---

Again this team still lacks the passing ability and guile required to break down some of these tougher more resilient premiership teams. Perhaps if Siggy comes in for Lennon and we go for a suitable AMC, but many on here stating that would not be his best position.

Our team needs a heartbeat in midfield, which i do not think Sigurdsson can provide. Always useful to have a goalscoring midfielder in the squad, but if this summer goes to plan i worry he won't be a starter in our XI which may prevent him from getting into a real rhythm and reaching his potential for us.

Gylfi is a brilliant young player. What has impressed me the most is his workrate. He's always tracking back and helping out.
