Whoever scouted him, will be having sleepless nights. I know he had little time to impose himself, but he has the physique and strength of a 12 year old boy

He’s similar to Lamela in the sense that they both have skills but often forget to pass the ball or get flattened before they do anything with it. Both talented players but neither are suited to the EPL.

Can’t we just send Fernandes back and forget the €56M agreed fee or whatever it’s is and put it towards Sabitzer ?
I think it was always intended to be a 1.5 year loan with zero intention of activating the purchase clause.

Don’t think we’ll take up the option of buying him, think he was bought in just to get an extra body in an area we were light, would only purchase him if he was outstanding and if Covid hadn’t struck and messed up our finances.

That’s funny, the way you’ve described him there was not far off what was said before we signed Gylfi...

A lot of things are said before we sign players. If similar things are said about two players it has no bearing on the actual similarities between those players or the probability of their success

He fits the mold of what Mourinho has had success with in midfield in the past. If you compare to his lesser talented 2015 title side you can already see him doing similar things. He’s already added his Matic in Hojbjerg, he’s got his Fàbregas in Lo Celso to get on the ball a lot and so he needs to add his Ramires (or if he was rolling it back in time he’d probably like to add a Lampard). Someone who knows their role in the team, works hard and can contribute with some goals.

The players we have don’t quite fit. He could try Ndombele in that role but it hasn’t quite worked out yet and I don’t know if he’ll ever be disciplined enough or do the basics well enough for Mourinho to trust. He could try winks further forward but he doesn’t get enough goals. He could try Dele but he’s struggled for form and always looks at his most dangerous playing further forward and not working in the midfield.

Sabitzer would be a pretty natural fit, works hard, good quality, leader and pops up with goals. It’ll take quite a bit of money though and we really have other areas we need to fix.

Any chance that the Lampard style midfielder could that be the role for Dele moving forward?
Dele still has more goals (0.32) and assists (0.21) per Premier League appearance than Frank's 0.29 goals & 0.17 assists per appearance ?

Frank did mostly play as a floating midfielder and a second striker, similar to Dele, so it will be interesting to see if he can succeed in that position under Mourinho this season when [hopefully] surrounded by a fit squad.

I actually thought Gedson looked good in the very little we saw of him.

He’s still only 21, so very much a work in progress. Comes under the ‘could be anything’ bracket for me.

Sabitzer is 26, so much more developed. I do wish we signed more players that are either in or entering their prime.

Sabitzer's main position is right winger and that is where I'd expect we'd sign him to play. Midfield is not his main position, he does not need to be a Ndombele replacement.

As much as I love Coco I would like to see us try to sign a more productive winger — preferably a right winger to challenge Lucas for a starting spot.

Sabitzer checks the boxes of the profile of winger who would supplement a front line of Son and Kane well with his ferocious long shot, dead ball ability, and crossing ability. If we could somehow raise funds for him through the sales of Sissoko and Lamela that we will have a very deep, well balanced, and formidable attack. Assuming we sign a backup striker too!

I didn't know this. I've only ever seen him play as a CM/AM in Leipzig's 4222, and he's looked excellent there- somebody that the opposition hate to play against because they won't get a second's peace in a game. If he can play on the wing that's added versatility to our squad which is great.
