Not sure but if we use de Bruyne as the benchmark does anybody seriously compare Ndombele to him? This is a player with 6 caps and 4 goals in top flight football. I’ll judge somebody on what they’ve achieved rather than what they may achieve
KDB and Ndombele has also quite a different role and position. I think I didn't see anyone here comparing him to KDB too.

So fucking relieved that he's pulled it around as I absolutely love watching him play.

He's a huge asset to the club and still has another FIVE years on his contract, so if all goes to plan we'll get to watch this guy boss our midfield for a long time to come. If we can fix our defence and upgrade on Sissoko/Winks then the potential of the squad is ridiculous.

Time will tell and you may be right, from what I’ve seen he’s not a £60m player

But for this to be meaningful and not simply sound like you have an agenda or are stubbornly sticking to a previously held view, you need to tell us what you would deem worthy of a £60m player. That allows us to measure it week by week, when Tanguy does/doesnt meet your standard.

As of now, you just sound.....oddly bitter

They’re both midfielders? Following Tottenham I’ve seen Hoddle, Ardiles, Gascoigne, Modric, world class midfield players. I sincerely hope that Ndombele grows to that stature but at the moment he’s nowhere near.

Bitter about what? As I’ve said above I’ve seen dozens of world class players for and against Spurs, I hope Ndombele develops into one but he’s a long way off.

They are both midfielders but with completely different roles, so no point to comparing them both.
And I've said he has potential/with current form he is one of the best, not one of the best in the world of last 50 years.

If he keeps this up for the next 10/20 games there won't be a better midfielder in the league. You could argue De Bruyne which is probably fair but he doesn't have the defensive ability that Ndombele has by the looks of it. If he adds the ability to shoot and score to his game like KDB has he will be the complete player.

I’m beginning to think lots on here have only watched football for a few years.
Maybe it just doesn't make sense to compare player from 2020 and 1975 because football has completely changed and there is also massive nostalgia and bias attached to players like Ardiles and Hoddle?

Modric came to Spurs when he was 23 and had a difficult first season but the talent was clearly there. That's pretty much exactly the same situation Ndombele is in right now. Was anyone who said Modric had the potential to be world class back then also wrong?

Regardless of whether a player has won the Champions League, or proven themselves over a 15 year career, I think most fans can recognise a rare talent when they see it.

I agree that he's not world class yet, but in terms of natural ability he's up there with the very best I've seen at Spurs.

What I love is that players are more alert when the ball is at his feet too, for example I saw Kane a few times go to make a run when Ndombele was on the ball and they weren't simply balls to pull off had he tried, just got the impression that Kane was fully aware of Ndombele's ability to play such a ball still.

Haha! You’re absolutely right it makes no sense comparing Ndombele to Ardiles! Look, football is about opinions but the oldies on here have seen proper players do it season after season. When Ndombele does that I’ll be delighted

Why do you think you have to be in your 60's to know anything about football?

Oh yes I agree, but for somebody to say he’s among the best in the world is bonkers.

No, but when you’ve watched football for several decades you learn not to get carried away.
I can't see anyone getting carried away. I think people are just appreciating his undoubted talent and new found commitment. Nothing wrong with that

Go on the football forum of any top team and there will be a few fans saying their best players are world class.

Guarantee some United fans think Martial and Bruno are world class, Chelsea fans think Havertz is world class, Everton fans think James and DCL...etc etc.

Not worth getting hung up on or arguing about really - people just want to get excited about their best players.

When you've watched football for several decades you also get a sense of a player who's pretty special even if they're not the finished article. I think that's all people are really saying.
