Some of the clips of that game are quite worrying to me.

It’s not just the weight he’s gained, it’s the way he’s moving. The fidgeting with his shorts, the near constant adjustments of his gloves and tugging at his collar. I don’t think he is a well man at all.

Clearly that’s very much conjecture on my part as I don’t know the guy and haven’t spent any time with him. It’s just that these are mannerisms and behaviours I’ve seen in people who are struggling.

Even if he has to leave football behind entirely I hope the guy’s going to be okay.
Completely agree. And if, god forbid, it turned out he wasn’t ok or something happened to him people would be on here wishing him well or sending condolences and talking about the need to be kind online. Except it’s too late then.

We had it with Dele.

Be kind.

Said it before and I say it again - Tanguy almost certainly engages in self-sabotage. His biggest problems aren't physical, they are mental. Whether it's a lack of self-discipline, a coping mechanism for stress, fear of failure, fear of success, or something else - it seems obvious that the guy needs to do some serious introspection and probably seek out the help of a professional.

I think I said this before on this thread a while back…

I wish I could take a high paying job, underperform with minimal effort and still be employed and paid for 4 years.

Interesting, sure money is good but I would feel much better if I genuinely earned it, worked hard and not take the piss!
I have just read a couple of other posts, if he is not well, I hope he is getting the help and support.

Yeah, I love a good (and shitty) joke, but I suspect there’s more at work here than a love of food and laziness.

Why though? Could just be that he is lazy!
If he needs help then I am sure the club would have supported him.
Either way happy to cut our losses and he stay away!

Love this thread. You'll get 5 pages of fat jokes, then 5 pages of sympathy, then 5 pages of mental health awareness week, before 5 more pages of fat jokes and the cycle continues. You've just got to time it right and do the fat jokes in that stage and the sympathy in that stage - farming likes. Get it wrong though and you're in big trouble.

Are you capable of putting in a world class performance in your chosen field for a couple of financial years to get the big dogs interested in you?
No? Ah well, back to the insecure day job then 😜

I’m really not pressed about it. He’s an objectively overweight, top-paid footballer.

Which is an absolute paradox

He may not have been mentally ready for that kind of transfer.

Not saying this is the case at all but a lot of things played out publicly and it may have an everlasting effect on him.

- Record transfer fee.
- Reputation as wonderful player and high expectation.
- Called up to French squad.
- New country and culture.
- Language issues.
- On AON docuseries where his issues were laid bare.
- Constant change of coach.
- Mourinho publicly trained him.
- Constantly loaned out to show he isnt wanted.

Not making excuses but some people may take one or 2 of these aspects and really feel the pressure which leads them to introvert and go on a downward spiral.

Everytime we loan him out, it may make his self-belief even worse. We look at it as a chance for him but he may look at it as rejection.

Again, not making excuses as we really dont know but he may genuinely becoming affected by it.

totally agree this is a guy that only a couple of weeks ago was being told they want him to stay. He needs help desperately imho.

Exactly how I felt when I saw this. It doesn’t sit right with me to pile in on him, however disappointed I may be with how it turned out for him at Spurs.

Yes, it’s his own responsibility to look after himself but you never know what’s going on behind the eyes and in the head. We’ve seen this with Dele, as you rightly say.

He might actually have hypothyroidism or similar condition that makes it difficult to keep his weight down.

I struggle to believe it's all down to bad attitude.
