Should this transfer not materialise, I hope we have good alternatives in mind and it just so happens that the press haven’t got wind of it.

Also, am I the only one who thought ‘why don’t we go for Lyon’s potential replacement for N’Dombele as that player will probably be worth £65m next year himself’?

Apparently Lyon is looking at this Brazilian guy to replace him. Problem is he isn´t close to being a full international, and thus wouldn´t be likely to get a work permit in England. The English work permit rules are much stricter for non-European players than in many other countries.

What Spurs could do, though, is to buy such a player, and then have him loaned out in Europe for a couple of seasons. But it wouldn´t solve our issues with getting a player now.

It depends who we’re beaten by

Why does the club matter with this one?

From what’s been reported, both ITK and in the press, it’s really just the fee with Lyon that is holding it up.

If he joins Real in July for the £63m price being reported then Levy is taking the blame for not getting this done when we had the chance.

IF Real Madrid did want him he would know about it by now, so why not wait to see if he can join them.
However there can be a few reasons why this deal is not done yet

If Real genuinely want him, the player would already be fully aware. Even if he know he is their second choice, he his going to bide his time to see if they end up getting their first choice. There is a food chain in football, and a player is only going to sign for us when it has been made clear to him that none of the teams above us in the chain want him.

Pretty much this, we could have offered 90 mill and Aulas or his agent would let anyone with a pulse know, it then comes down to the player and if he wants us or a Madrid or a PSG he could well end up picking them because of money or prestige or whatever.

Still don't reckon this'll happen. Radio silence and all that.

But at the same time... IF we got the fee done & dusted out the way, then we would know if we are not his preferred destination.
Whilst there currently is still plenty of time, if we only find out in late July that Ndombele has decided to go elsewhere. This will leave us struggling for time to work on alternatives.

I don't know much about this player but since he has 2 goals from his year in league 2 and no goals in the 3 seasons for Amiens and Lyon in League 1 (He does have a few cup goals just nothing in 68 League 1 games for those teams) I assume he is a really really defensive midfielder?

Again, I really know next to nothing about him other than stats so please enlighten me how a player in midfield with no goals will be a signing that moves us forward to where we can challenge for the league title since a lot of our goals are scored by midfield. Maybe he is the assist king?

Maybe read the thread? I know that's a snarky comment but it still stands.

Kind of feels like he’s keeping his options open, which you can’t blame really.

I reckon we’re likely up against Utd, possibly up against PSG, unlikely but maybe up against Real.

He could well be waiting to see if the latter two decide to move. Which puts us in an awful position - we could be strung out, only to lose him and have few alternatives

I get the feeling this is close now and that's why the likes of Utd, Real and PSG are being linked. They want us to come back with a bigger offer.
