If we can, we should cut our losses with him. He's one of those players who could have it all but he hasn't got the mentality to achieve it.
He appears to be a player that wants to turn it on against the big teams but is mediocre against the not so big teams.

Time to move on and try something else, otherwise we'll be having the same conversation about him season in and season out.

He will always be a "what if"

If he stays, he plays. His spirit may lift if he’s part of a team that’s moving forward with him totally involved. He might start to enjoy himself. Possibly, Tottenham need to address his mental state after all we’ve all been through. It’s hard to understand why he seems so down as he has all at his feet.

Somehow we find the switch that sees this guy motivated and giving his best - at moment looking a long shot but with a new manager give Nuno some time.

Sadly the chances of us offloading Tanguy without a bath of swimming pool proportions is unlikely.

Patrici is already facing a massive challenge to clear our deadwood and rebuild the squad but it feels like there is a clever loan swap arrangement out there which would see Tanguy going to a league where his particular qualities will better shine through and in exchange we pick up someone capable off the step up to EPL. For arguments sakes perhaps a Coutinho - Tanguy swap? Might be crazy, but 60m and 200k per week needs a solution To at least get some value.

I do wonder whether the club should think outside the box and search for the right psychological coach, who could get the best out of him.

It's not like we haven't got the resources to do this and the pay-off would be huge.

But you never really see clubs doing this...and definitely not our club
Would be a good idea if he wanted to remain at Spurs.

How about a loan-swap (w/ option?) with Lyon for Aoaur?
Obviously we'd have to subsidise Ndombele's wages, but could be beneficial to get him back to his previous club where he felt more comfortable, and we get a player in who might stay fit and contribute? I don't know, I'm just thinking out loud. Probably a difficult deal to do.

Not sure who we are going to get that’s willing to pay his wages, or indeed able to. European football is skint and I can’t see any premier league teams taking a risk on him.

Best solution I feel would be to loan him out with an option to buy. Give him a year in a lesser league to shine, get his value up and sell him off for as much as we can. I love watching this guy play but I tend give him more credit because of the WAY he does things rather than what he actually delivers. He always has 1 or 2 moments where you think holy crap I'll have some of that. But at the end of the day if you compare his stats per 90 against someone like Tielemens it's night and day and Tanguy falls short across the board on passes, sprints, goals, assists, chances created, tackles, interceptions etc.

That said, I think shifting Sissoko/Winks is a bigger priority and because of that I can't see anything happening this window with Tanguy. I believe our go to trio will be Skipp/Hojberg and Lo Celso with Alli, nDombele and a new CM providing the cover.

You begin to sympathise a little with Mourinho’s criticisms of Ndombele when another coach comes in and has exactly the same assessment.

At this point my motivation for Ndombele leaving is largely because I'm tired of opening this thread up and it being one THE MOST toxic player threads I've read on here for a Spurs player in a long whole. I'm sure some of that will shift to some new signing that doesn't pass the test, but by God is this thread equal parts depressing and insulting in all sorts of ways.

It's preseason, and we all know the reason why he didn't play in at least part of games. Also Nuno cares about fitness, Mourinho doesn't.

But aren't people just saying what they see?

I can't say I've seen many posts from the detractors that don't acknowledge the lads unquestionable talent.

But they can't be described as toxic, depressing & insulting if they're stating that (it appears from the outside looking in) he's a lazy, unprofessional & an unbelievably mentally fragile individual.

All we can judge him on is what we see with our own eyes. Moments of brilliance, and there HAVE been some, do not detract from the fact he's shown absolutely nowhere near enough for the unbelievable amounts the club has paid for his services.

If his attitude was suspect before he came to Spurs I think it’s worse now he’s got his big fat contract. He may have had some desire before when he was on lower wages elsewhere but he probably knows this is as good as it gets in terms of earnings. We are stuck with him and unless we get incredibly lucky in shipping him out and even then I believe we’ll have to subsidise his wages, I can see him doing a Bentley and staying the full term. Such a colossal blunder getting this guy.

He just needs a jump start, once he's playing he's fine. It almost feels like we are convincing him to come out of retirement every season,

It's one thing to question or discuss a player's mental health and ability to perform on the pitch, I don't have any issue with thar. It's another to insult it or belittle it and other Spurs fans when discussing it. When I said toxic I didn't refer to any specific conversation because it's all the conversations and responses around those conversations thar are actually toxic, not the conversation topics themselves. The divide in discourse is such that everyone is always in here on the defense or attack for even mild posts. That's the toxicity I am referring too.

He's our equivalent of Pogba, without having yet reached his potential levels of performance. I would guess Pogba could well be a role model of his actually.

I think far too many posters get emotionally involved with a player and are blinded by this. I love Dier and haven't an issue with Winks as an example but can accept they might have limitations as players. Ndombele has the talent...it's consistency and application that is a problem.

Personally I don't want one single player in that dressing room with a bad attitude & I included HK in that thought process. Players that want to play for us only required for me.

We need to sell and reinvest that money into another engine room midfielder.

It feels like this is the third season in a row where Ndombele isn’t anywhere near match fit in time for the first game, and Nuno appears to be the 4th manager with some kind of issue with his application.

I hope it comes good for the guy but surely his chances are running out.

Barcelona have allegedly been interested in him in the past - I suspect we could do worse than looking at a deal with them involving us taking a couple of players off their hands (and crucially their wage bill) in exchange for signing Ndombele.
