Yes the team's not playing to his strengths but he still has to do his job to the best of his ability and he seems to make the wrong decision on the ball 90% of the time. There are usually good or obvious passes available to him but he'll go on a run into a cluster of defenders instead. You can usually see it a mile off on TV. It's like his solution to his confidence being shot is to defy his his inner doubts and take the really brave option of trying to make something happen but it's never coming off. Even his shots lack any belief. Needs time on the bench now. I get all the questions about Gil's readiness for English football but how can he not offer more than this?

Offers absolutely nothing at the moment, stats might not tell the whole story every time, but he has 0+2 on PL games he has started this season (well over 1000 minutes) and those stats tell the whole story this time. Time to regain form from super sub position.

I do feel that we need to (and can) secure Son's successor in January. I vote we make an offer for Marcus Thuram. He's 25, will have 6 months remaining on his contract in January and is the type of wide forward that Conte will love and get the best out of.

Thuram likely going to Newcastle. Is great friends with Saint Maximim and ASM “accidentally” let it slip to press that Newcastle were in for, all Howe could say was “Thanks Maxi”
Arsenal, Man U and Barcelona all linked also. Every one of those clubs above us in pecking order

I don’t think he’s in even half decent form this season but how often do we get him in behind these days? How often do we create an opportunity where we play a pass through channels for him to run onto, or at least create a scenario where he only has one player to beat before being able to shoot on goal. It feels like so much of his play right now is requiring him to carry the ball past about 3 or 4 players before even reaching the final third. Put him in the Liverpool team today and he’d probably have had a hat trick of clear cut chances to score from.

what we have to realise is Son scores mainly on the counter and given we always fall behind allowing the opposition to defend deep this negates his effectiveness.

I thought he played well yesterday, the main problem being the complete lack of supply lines from behind him.

We have half a dozen problems, and Son aint among them.

Annoying that Richarlison is injured again as Son could do with starting on the bench.

I was thinking the same and also thinking as such when watching Liverpool yesterday. How many times did they attack with runners into acres of space? I think had we played the same game, in the same time that Liverpool put a player through on goal or down the wing we'd still be passing slowly between our defenders and midfielders.

Son more than not at the moment really pisses me off but he would not look near this bad in certain other sides IMO.

Yep Richarlison would be first choice on left side now, although even when all four available and Son was badly off form Conte still played him.

Players do deserve loyalty back, but Son has had more than enough opportunities now and to have only score 3 goals all in one game is appalling, especially after he was joint top scorer in league last season.

That weak shot off his left foot yesterday around the 88' minute when he had Doherty (I think?) on his right highlights this. He's not on it right now.

We're always playing from behind with teams camped in, there are no channels to run into so instead we focus on perisic peppering the box with crosses from that side.

This team/setup is not one for trying to claw back a lead (not to say we cant claw back a lead, just a lot more difficult to do it with flying forwards the way we'd like to see). Overlapping wingbacks dont mean much when the opposition are all back we arent able to exploit an overload against 9/10 men behind the ball.

we can surely take the lead against villa....

I love Son, but we should have cashed in on him last summer.

Hello Captain Hindsight. Son had just had his best season with us goals-wise and won the golden boot, so if we then decided to sell him out fans would have rioted.

Sorry but anyone criticising the club for not selling him last summer does not have a clue, no one could have envisaged his sudden drop in form this season.

He's not suddenly shit either, pretty sure he'll find his form again. Short break last season and world cup interrupting this has messed things up.

As others have said a few sub appearances and sure he can find some rhythm again.
