I fear you are correct. Sad as I had such high hopes for him.I don’t see it. He was poor on the ball, and very weak. Sterling just brushed him aside at times
I just think because we won people are overrating his performance. During the game he was the obvious player out there who I think was found lacking at this level.
I just can’t see him making it here. He doesn’t seem to possess any standout attributes at all.
A lot of it is low confidence. A few times yesterday he had the chance to burst forward and really run on but kept checking his runs. I wouldn't say he has any sort of electrifying pace though, certainly not in the Bale realms anyway.
Only 21 though with Royal 23 on the other side. I think everyone needs to lay off them a bit.

I thought for the most part Sess was really solid Defensively yesterday, but agree with him going forward. He always checked himself. It’s clear given all the injuries he has had and then being sacrificed last week amongst other stuff he is so low on confidence. Given a run of games though and I can see things turning round for him.
Hopefully Conte can unlock something in him to make that next step. I do think he is one of the players that he feels he can trust which will help.
Spot on it's confidence. He certainly has the physical attributes and technical skillset to be a very competent premier league player. People need to remember what Bale was like before he suddenly gained that confidence, he spent most of the match touching his hair and looking lost. I'm not saying Ryan will go on to the heights of GB, but he has the potential to emulate the career of someone like Danny Rose!I think it’s a confidence thing. He needs more ‘balls’ … to go for it offensively. He also seems to be more focused on not losing possession than creating something.
We need a new LWB and a new RWB this summer as none of our current WBs are powerful enough runners or effective in the final 3rd.
Yep. Akin to the game against Liverpool he keep things pretty quiet down that side of the pitch. Was very pleased that Conte played him yesterday after amending his tactics against wolves etc. Think he’s a good player who’s confidence will come. Was happier seeing him at left back over DaviesHe was never going to be bursting up the wing all game yesterday.
We played a compact game making sure City didn't find a way past us before getting Kane on the ball to find the run of Son.
He delt with Sterling well, but did lose his man at times.
For me he did the job that he needed to do yesterday.
Both fullbacks were our weakest area, but still had at least a 6/10 game imo.
He needs a period of no injuries and a ran of games IMHO.
Let’s not forget he kept Salah very quiet and Foden anonymous, two highly influential players, all off the back of a lack of game time.
