Sess with some interesting quotes from his recent Sky interview:
"(He [Mourinho] wants me to) be more positive on the ball as well. I've been a bit disappointed in myself, the way I have been playing recently. It's an honest assessment from me looking back at it.

"I'm usually a very positive player with the ball but the last few games I haven't exploited areas which I usually would. For the upcoming games, if I am involved, I will have to do better."

"I see myself at full-back long term"
----
Glad to see he's recognized he has been playing quite safe on the ball and hasn't really been trying to exploit space and take players on. This honestly could stem back to Mourinho's comments about him losing the ball too often post-Bayern. I think he's looked pretty solid defensively thus far (which is what I think we were all most concerned about with him) so I'm looking forward to seeing him find his groove offensively. I have a lot of faith in him becoming a top LB for us and I'm happy to see that he's been getting opportunities to play there.

I like that a lot.

The best bit I take away from this is the players must be being worked on their games individually.

Hopefully if that’s happening alongside the team it won’t be long before it all clicks. Confidence will obviously play a large part in this. He seems to suggest that he hasn’t been doing some things he usually does. Sounds like that’s down to a lack of confidence. Understandable at the moment.

I’ve always said he’s got a top mentality, that’s one of the reason I rate him so highly and wanted us to buy him

Self-analysis is what all the best players do. He’s definitely been playing it a bit safe in possession, which is understandable given he hasn’t played much for a while.

That shows a lot of maturity and self awareness couple that with a desire to adjust the flaws he can see in his game will serve him very well in the future and could be the difference between having a good career or having a great one.

Don't think you have had to be an expert football analyst to have seen he has been playing well within himself and super conservative the last few outings and hopefully we see him with the bit between his teeth next time out.

I still don’t understand why we aren’t playing him as the attacking fullback on the left with a defensive right sided centre back on the right (Foyth/Toby) instead of Aurier on the right and jan on the left. Surely he’d be a safer option?

It seems to make sense, and I agree, but I just don’t think he’s quite there yet, as his Sky interview would also suggest. It’s a lack of confidence which will come good eventually.

So disappointed in this kid. Just hiding. Never takes anyone on, not even a push a run.
The ball was on the right side all the tine and he makes no effort to make a run into the box, just stands there no where near the play unmarked waiting for someone to give it to him like a little boy

He's had 2 full seasons, one in the prem, so he's experienced. If you don't take people on as a kid you never will. He looks like he has zero belief in himself

Him closing down the keeper got us the first goal and he had a run and shot that forced a good save

I was waiting for the typical over analysing of his performance. Thought he played ok tonight and is still learning his trade.

He is almost a year younger than Japhet Tanganga who played tonight and they both played well and both misplaced passes. Surely young players should be allowed to come into a side and be given time. Between them they have made about 6 appearances for the club.

Not on SC they fucking won't...they will be roundly criticised by the finest positional and tactical experts that have surprisingly chosen to take up other professions.

Did fine and he's got real football intelligence, makes the correct decisions more than most youngsters - definitely a player there.

However, he's so frustrating to watch atm. I lost count of the amount of times I found myself willing him to take on his man/continue his run/whip in a ball before he just opted for the simple pass.

Really needs a bit of belief in himself.

Agree. Think he'll be fantastic long term. But a tad frustrating for me at the mo. Numerous times there was acres to run into after playing it off but just held his position. Has all the attributes though.

Play Davies at LB when he returns from injury and give Sess some time playing further forward. Let him build up his confidence.
