Agree he could have taken on the full back a bit more but overall he played well.

I think when the players get to know him there will be one twos down the wing which will release him forward for the shot or cross

He was good defensively, mobile, tidy and got stuck in

Upgrade on Rose currently and will get better. I think we have a good player here

Yeah, he's a bit frustrating when he stops and cuts back so often but he made some good runs, and also defended pretty well.
Plus, there's no much use in bursting to the byline to whip in a cross, when we haven't got anyone in the box.
We need a striker.

We also need to have a bit of patience with this young lad to give him time to learn and gain confidence.
Fucking stupid to have a go at him.

Reminds of early Bale so much
Without the confidence and the aggression. However I'm sure this lad will come through under Jose and we will have a winner. I'd love to see him take on some defenders, he is so fast.

Clearly got talent and is going to be a star I'm sure, but needs to stop being a fanny and be braver. Tanganga showed what I expected from Sessegnon in the final minute with that run.

The tactic last night seemed to be the reverse of what we've been doing with Aurier and Vertonghen and Sessegnon was given the freedom to get forward on the left. Yet it turned out Japhet was the one getting into dangerous positions more often.

It's very telling that he's halfway between positions at the moment

Just needs more games. Even if it takes him until next season to be more productiv.
Has all the tools and need to gain experience. Will be fine. Should not sit on the bench for Danny Rose.

I thought he looked good in the first half last night when he got the ball. I’d much rather give him minutes over Rose who doesn’t want to be here.

Once Davies comes back he might even get more game time with Sanchez, Toby, Davies as the back three in some games.

Yeah, he’s definitely building up the confidence. Did alright given that he was up against an opponent in Spence who looked as quick if not quicker than him.

Not on SC they fucking won't...they will be roundly criticised by the finest positional and tactical experts that have surprisingly chosen to take up other professions.
THIS. If people can't see what a lovely player he will become, then I wonder what you actually see when you watch games.

He should already be ahead of Rose in my opinion because at least he appears fairly solid in defence. He will grow and get more confident and he should become an excellent player as he has everything you would want in his position plus what appears to be a good understanding of the game.

He looked alot more aggressive last night. For the first 10 minutes I thought Rose was playing. Once he get's into a steady flow and builds confidence I think he will be a fine player for us.

I think he is progressing nicely considering his age.

So far at left back he isn't getting badly exposed defensively which is what we all expected. He is nipping in with challenges and working hard down the flank.

I also think he is using the ball very, very well; his distribution really is impressive. He always seems to be able to find a Spurs player even when it looks like there isn't an option. He is calm on the ball and finds a player.

Areas to improve are self belief and aggression imo, this will help him take players on more and be more aggressive on and off the ball.

But the signs are encouraging, I think his decision making is incredibly mature for such a young left back.

The thing I like most about him is his intelligence. He's clearly still finding his feet but unlike Rose and Aurier who are both quite rash and hotheaded, Sessegnon seems like quite a cool character with solid technique and pace, and he has the ability to pick out a man and make smart runs.

I've got faith that, with good coaching, he could become a very decent player for us going forward, whereas I have no faith at all that Aurier will iron out his idiotic tendencies (even though he's great about 1/3 of the time).

On the basis of today I'd prefer the Tanganga/Sess combo to the Verts/Aurier combo we've seen under Jose.

Yeah I agree with that. Last year it would have been impossible to imagine that. Vertonghen has falling off a cliff so far this year. We have some good options with Tanganga coming through as a holding right back and Davies becoming fit again. Hopefully we can bin Aurier and sign a really attacking fullback for RB to give us the final piece of the jigsaw.

One thing that has stood out to me , and is quite similar to Davies with this, is his ability to pass the ball well into our front players. Usually taking 2-3 opponents out of the game. He'll continue to grow and seems to be feeling his way in well.

He was also a bit of a revelation going forward. Obviously he's not going to become the next Alves but he's deceptively quick and actually tried to pick people out in the box with his crosses unlike Aurier and Rose who more often than not hit and hope.

Absolutely. One thing I would add is that as a new player who is now under Mourinho a manager who has no time for defensive errors it’s only natural for him to be somewhat conservative at the start as he wouldn’t want to make any mistakes particularly considering Mourinho has already been annoyed by Spurs defensive errors.

As time goes on and the team becomes better defensively I think we will see more from him going forward.

One thing I loved is then when he and Tanganga lost the ball both pressed like hell for five seconds to try and win it back.

I was like, “What is this all about? It seems terribly unfamiliar yet also familiar like a memory from long ago.”

You can see that Sessegnon is a proper footballer, like Jan, and unlike Aurier. Just needs time and confidence. Has all the talent.
