It's not...

We started well last season under Conte too, and under Nuno, and under Mourinho, and under Villas-Boas the season following the sale of Bale.

Can't just look at a couple of scoresheets and conclude everything is working well. The front three is clearly not working right now, and there will definitely be frustrating games if things continue the way they are. We absolutely need an alternative striker at an absolute minimum.
Those Nuno games we created zilch and I think we won 1-0 the first three games or something. The results masked the performances. Under Ange (so far and including pre-season) there is a clear marked improvement and we have created more chances as a result. We don't have to rely on a striker getting 30 goals a season if it's spread around the frontline, midfield and defenders. It's clear that we'll have the fullbacks taking shots, midfielders getting into the box for bits and pieces, and not to mention with Maddison and Perisic we have two dead ball specialists.

If Richarlison isn't the answer, who is the best and potentially available striker we can get? Orban / Vlahovic?

Had a 1 in 3 record at Everton and 1 in 2 at international - he's not allergic to goals, his record with us looks much worse given how in-and-out he was - but his work rate is staggering, and that's why Ange is going to persist with him.

I don't think it's a case of signing another #9 to rotate; rather a wide forward that can benefit from his relentlessness.
I would lean more towards the lack of other options being the main reason Ange is persisting with him. He has been better off the ball so far than last season (not getting in pointless arguments) but not to the extent that we don't need cover at the sharp end of the pitch.

Imagine if he was to pick up an injury (which judging by four instances of 3wk+ injuries over last 2 seasons suggests it's likely) who would come in other than moving Sonny up top which yes he can do but is not his position.

This isn't to say get rid of him but we certainly need a plan B (or ideally a better plan A with Richy moving back into plan B)

But here's the problem: the whole front-line has underperformed the first two rounds. This cannot continue and it's going to hurt us if it's not rectified soon.

Also we've had zero strikers on the bench in the first two games. There are going to be games where we're behind or level and chasing a win. If our striker options are Richarlison and moving Son central, that will be a joke.

There is simply no way we're achieving anything this year without at least one more striker option.

The service into the box has been shite unless Perisic is on the pitch, with the wingers cutting inside on their stronger foot means the angle of the cross is all wrong for a striker. I see Sonny and Kulu being an albatross around Big Anges neck with the way he wants the wide roles to play.

I would bet my house that if Periscic and Solomon started in the wide positions Richy would get more and better service.

Arsenal finished second last year with their top scorer (and number 9) chipping in with 12 goals. Having a balanced team with multiple scoring options isn't a negative.
Man City won the league season before last with their top scorer getting 15. You don't *need* a 30 goal a season striker to be the best - as shown by us having one last year and finishing 8th.

I mean they had 3 players he scored more than jesus? Saka martinelli and odegaard, maybe maddison could reach those levels but I can’t see son (current form) or Kulu get anywhere near those numbers

Yeah realized I was incorrect but the point stands.

We don't even need 3 players to score 15 if everyone is chipping in. If we get 10-15 goals from defenders, and 20 or so from the midfield we'll be in good shape. And with this system that's not unrealistic. Let's see how the next 3 matches against relegation fodder go.

a good read !

this was my favorite quote from the article and an excellent reminder for patience:

“Stern and unswerving Italian Conte was not the man to indulge Richarlison. Postecoglou, himself a scrappy underdog who knows what it is like to be underestimated, has the emotional intelligence to understand how to put an arm around his shoulder and maximise his potential.”

Think he needs more than an arm round the shoulder personally. Hope he can step up as doesn't look like we're signing any one.

He’s really struggling tbf. Question is how long is he given? You get we’re playing with the handbrake on but harsh to jettison him only a few games in. Has to start scoring soon though or you feel he’s vulnerable.

No goals 3 games in is fine as he’s had chances and needs one for a goal but losing his head so easily, kicking out, sulking, that is NOT acceptable.

If it was a one off him being like this then fine and we are all behind him but I really dislike his attitude generally and I don’t think Ange will be best pleased either.

New striker signing absolutely needed.

He gives such an erratic impression, like he’s nervous.

He is a good player but he desperately needs a goal to boost his confidence and find his rythm.

I thought he looked pretty good in the first half - had a few chances and did well with the other parts of the game. But, he looked well off the pace in the second half and needs to keep his head.

My main worry is we get into a Soldado situation (or Son last year maybe) where if he doesn't get a goal or two soon, his confidence will drop and the pressure will rise and he'll struggle even more.
