Interesting couple of paragraphs in Gary Jacob's Times article. It seems to go along with Ange's comments after Brenford where he said we werent getting the ball to Richy enough. Whilst I agree with that, sometimes the player needs to be in the right areas. Does he have those goal scorer instincts though is a question because if he isnt in the box in the right areas. Let's see if he can learn.

Richarlison cut a glum figure on the bench when he was taken off. “As a striker, I have to receive the ball, I have to be close to the goal and I didn’t receive any ball there, so I was more upset about that,” Richarlison said. “In training I’ve been doing well, scoring goals, it’s a matter of time for the goals to come out.

“The fans have to be a little patient, it’s not easy to replace an idol like Harry Kane, that time is normal. Like it or not, a match in which I don’t score, they’re going to miss him. That’s why Tottenham paid dearly for me. That’s why they put me here, now it’s up to me, I have to do the job, I know my responsibility. The coach hit my chest, I know he trusts me too.”

I like the guy. Just needs to find some rhythm. I think he could come good once the team becomes more established

This. He has to keep showing he has that in him to enable his teammates to trust and pass him the ball. Kane was so good that everyone knew just give him the ball he can make something, and anything, happen.

It will take time, But I definitely agree it's not just a case of keep giving him the ball he can score. There were some half chances against United when his reaction time was not even quick enough to capitalise on those. Work on his sharpness, and then I'm sure Kulu/Porro will gladly send those crosses in.

Give Richy time with Maddison and I'm sure goals will come , with our new style of play it looks like we are going to share goals around , two goals from defenders , one from a midfielder and a defender involved in getting the own goal.
Kane can't be replaced , neither could Greaves, Mackay, Jennings , Hoddle or Gascoigne just to name a few.

But what if this is as sharp as he can get?

He needs a run of games obviously but I still think we bring another striker in because if we are still sitting here well into September or October still waiting for him to score or even get a good attempt on goal then we will be in trouble. We have the chance to square off that risk by bringing in a goal scorer now.....or maybe even give Dane some of the minutes at the end of a game to see what he can do.

Oh boy, that's a very bleak scenario. I really hope not. Hearts says he has time to prove himself, but I know the heads of many will think we have only less than 2 weeks to not short change ourselves in the frontline...

It's imperative we do, but I've got this increasing feeling of doubt that we will. Levy's record for bringing in (quaity) strikers is crap really.
It would be lunacy to put all our eggs in the Richarlison basket, and keeping our fingers crossed that he comes good.

Our next four games are Bournemouth, Fulham (League Cup), Burnley and Sheffield United. It wouldn't surprise me if he doubled his number of goals in a Spurs shirt and scored 3 goals in this run of games. We need him to.

It's not really Levy's record though is it? If the point is: we haven't had the money to spend massively on strikers...then yes, that's probably right. But there's also been an issue, for some time, that Kane has been irreplaceable up front for us, and no one wanted to come as second fiddle.

Moreover, we did spend 60m on a striker last year.

It would be lunacy to put all our eggs in the Richarlison basket, and keeping our fingers crossed that he comes good.

Totally agree with this though. Really feels like we need another striker. The main question for me is the approach. Do we:
1) Spend big, and go for someone that will push Richi (and arguably Son as a 9) back in the pecking order - can't be too many players that you would say would definitely do that, and even less that are available or realistically valued; or
2) Go for a young back up with potential

Had a 1 in 3 record at Everton and 1 in 2 at international - he's not allergic to goals, his record with us looks much worse given how in-and-out he was - but his work rate is staggering, and that's why Ange is going to persist with him.

I don't think it's a case of signing another #9 to rotate; rather a wide forward that can benefit from his relentlessness.

SC - we'll need to be patient while Ange implements his new style of play.
SC - this striker is shit, get rid and bring in some unknown kid from Belgium.

Never change SC.

To be fair, different people are allowed to have different opinions.
Yes and I think my opinion is somewhere in between. Get the talented goal scorer in and have some alternative to Richy, without pushing completely out. We would have space for two good no. 9s in the squad.

I’d argue that we need someone better than an unknown kid in Belgium. We shouldn’t be selling the best striker in the world and not replacing him with someone of quality.

He just needs to score a goal to get confidence and the run of games we have coming up are perfect for him to hopefully get going.

I really don't see that we replace Kane with anyone other than Richi.

We've played 2 and scored 4 goals, so I'd say what we are doing is working at the moment.
