Great goal against Wolves but still lacking in general play for me. Never looks totally in control of the ball, runs up blind alleyways, only really makes token attempts to press and for a player who has such amazing pace he never seems to make intelligent runs off the ball.

He's mega talented, but his decision making still needs work.

My concern with our current wingers is they're both good goal scorers, but slightly lacking in guile and the ability to pick the lock in tight games. Son makes up for that with his brutal directness, but while he's doing a good job at present and scores some excellent goals, the jury is still out on Moura IMO

Mourinho singled him out for his work rate after Burnley game and he was our most fouled player against wolves.

This is what you get. He is 27. He won't suddenly develop into a Zola on the ball or Lampard off it.

Overall he has been more useful than I thought he would be. Love his fighting spirit and under Mourinho he is very useful defensively. Works as hard as any other player. He can run past players which makes him useful to relieve some pressure at times. And he will score the odd goal. He seems like a fantastic guy as well. Perfect squad player and he is hardly a problem for us at the moment, but not good enough to be a given starter (like Son) for a team hoping to fight for titles.

Am I the only one who is reminded of Defoe sometimes when I watch Moura?

I know there’s plenty of differences, but it’s something about the quick feet and power finishes with little back lift that reminds me of Defoe.

Kind of... but Defoe was a proper fox in the box. He came alive within 10 yards of the goal and could just finish from anywhere.

He seems to be very much a confidence player. When he's got his tail up, he can be blistering. A perfect player to have in the squad - won't let you down when he starts and is a fantastic option off the bench. I'm a big fan.

Yeah look at his 2nd goal against Huddersfield last season, looked exactly like the way he finishes.

Nope , simply miles off . You can't have seen the Wolves game and are running on a prejudice from I don't know when . Lucas was all action without the ball ..as Havre says on this page he was amazing at nicking the ball off defenders , pressing and threw himself into tackles .

For a comparison with a Spurs player who is precisely as this poster describes , look no further than Sonny who is no fan of tackling /pressing or heading . We still love him of course , but these shortcomings are not highlighted .

In future check Lucas more closely and then you can divest yourself of this unfortunate delusion .

Son runs his ass off on defense.

Son runs his ass off on defense.

Yep , he runs alright ,true , but he is not an asset in our 'defensive process' to the extent Lucas is in terms of tackling ,nicking the ball away from defenders and generally physically harassing defenders .Lucas's efforts don't seem to be widely noticed .

I'm not complaining about Sonny, just observing via the post above which incorrectly stated that Lucas made little attempt to defend. This view bears little relation to the things we see on the field imo.

Well that was his reputation.

But, honestly, his technique was great but his finishing nothing special, though it did improve as he got older. For me Defoe was always at his best when picking up the ball from outside the box and being able to turn and either drive or shoot. But he didn't have a particularly good range of finishing, couldn't score a penalty and unreliable at 1 on 1's. He never really ever learnt how to place a shot, and his goal record shows that really. He was, however, a much more dangerous and exciting player than some might remember him, definitely more so than his current edition.

His second touch always seems to take him into a 50-50 which he tends to turn into a 52-48 with his pace and results in him getting wiped out. I think Jose has found his best position now though. He really puts a shift in for the team defensively, and his aerial ability is phenomenal - something we should try and take advantage of more. Under Jose he has 3 goals in 5 games, 2 of them away goals. In fact, Jose has got all our attacking players firing:

In Jose's first 5 games....

Kane = 3 goals, 1 assist
Son = 2 goals, 4 assists
Moura = 3 goals, 0 assists
Dele = 3 goals, 2 assists
Total = 11 goals, 7 assists

Last 5 games under Poch...

Kane = 1 goal, 0 assists
Son = 1 goal, 1 assist
Moura = 0 goals, 0 assists
Dele = 2 goals, 0 assists
Total = 4 goals, 1 assist

Big change.

Moura is far more effective off the bench flashes of brilliance isn’t enough
Thought it was hilarious last week people getting so excited about his defensive work when he was pretty terrible offensively and then follows that up with what he did today. Mourinho would be proud of y’all.

I think he lost the ball the most out of anyone

Every time he plays. He has his good moments but I really think Sessegnon would offer more over the course of a game. I wouldn’t be upset one bit if we found someone who would pay us good money for him.

His touch is so shit at times, same with Son. I just don't get it. How can obviously talented, technical players fail so miserably, so often, at one of the fundamentals of the game?

I don't think he's doing a great job defensively either. He runs a lot but never near any oppenents to actually be of any help.

He will never change, he will either do nothing or score a goal or two. He wil never put up 5 good and consistent performances in a row. Or even 3. Good player to have in a team though.
