The problem lies with what he can get elsewhere. There’s a reported number of decent clubs looking at him and if they’re offering him say £25-30k per week then unless we’re competitive in our offer he’ll go elsewhere. Say this was Davies, Foyth, Lamela etc then I wouldn’t be bothered if they left. Whereas with Tanganga he’s young, very promising and can develop into an integral part of our 1st team/squad in the very near future. To let him go would be madness and very costly indeed.

As already said, I don't think there's anything to worry about yet. It's just opening positions. Odds are that Tanganga's demand is as excessive as Levy's offer is inadequate. That's how it works. The tweet acknowledges that both sides are still hopeful of a compromise.

Besides which, basic salary is only one part of the equation. Tanganga likely feels at least some love and loyalty towards Spurs, having been with us since the age of 10. And he has already done the hardest part, having properly broken through into the first team. He knows that Jose thinks very highly of him and has the confidence to play him in big games. If he goes anywhere else, he can't be certain that his new manager will have as much faith in him and give him the same opportunities.

So he'd be very poorly advised to go anywhere else right now. Which is why I'm confident that his signature on a new contract is simply a matter of time.

I'm confident he will sign, currently on £1k a week he will sign for £30ish imo. The problem is he will probably be looking at the idiots like Chelsea giving Reece £80k or Hudson-Odoi £120k and want a big increase of his own.

He should sign similar to what Skipp agreed to.

While I agree with the basic premise of what you're saying, we do have to be cognisant of the competitive nature of the market. Put simply, I can think of at least 10 other PL clubs that would offer him £40k a week basic.

That said, like you, I believe it'll all be sorted and he'll get a deal that suits all parties.

He really hasn't shown anything to justify a massive pay rise. 15k with performance related bonuses sounds reasonable. If he progresses hell get more.

Secondly, Tanganga is still young and has achieved comparatively little. Far too many young, English players at big clubs find themselves on far too high a basic salary far too early in their careers. It's one of the reasons why so many of them fail to progress. Let's have some perspective, £800K per annum basic pay (and maybe £1.6m after bonuses) is still a hell of a lot of money for most people of any age. And remember that Spurs has a clear policy and history of rewarding young players with frequent (yearly), big pay rises as they establish themselves. I prefer such an incentivised strategy than a blanket high basic pay regardless of performance.

Depending on where you look we've given Jack Clarke, who's the same age as Tanganga either 20k or 30k per week. We're the ones setting a precedent here, you can't expect him to be playing PL football and getting less money than someone who in his eyes can't get into Leeds' side.

15k is the least he should be getting, we always seem to undervalue our own players. Hopefully this doesn't go the way of Edwards and everyone starts turning against him for not immediately signing.

Your post seems to acknowledge that there is no certainty as to what we are paying Clarke. So it's somewhat moot to base any kind of an argument on it.

What is almost a certainty though is that, whatever it is that we are paying Clarke will not have been what Levy first offered. And, just as is happening with Tanganga now, a process of negotiation will have led to the eventual agreement.

Let's wait until a deal is agreed (if a deal is agreed), and for what amount, before determining whether or not we are undervaluing Tanganga.

Reece isn't on £80k it's he?

So is Aurier out of Sunday after going to France? If so Tanganga will be needed at right back. He has proven to be greatly versatile in defence. Only really struggled at left back against Sarr at Watford but many have. I'm sure we'll work out a deal, he's one of our own afterall.

Wasn't Onomah on £20k/week? and turned up to training in a Bentley...

I think there's something to be said for too much too soon - and Spurs do have good form for increasing contracts and deals for players who are performing well - with the contract revisited every 12-24 months - I'd be interested to see Tanganga's contract incentivised in this way, but £15k is taking the biscuit given what he offers the team. I'd say he's one of our most important players, now!

Really pleased that Dier, Skipp and Tanganga are getting new deals.

So important to keep a 'Spurs' core to the squad.

Parrott, Cirkin and White next hopefully.

The idea that a £780k annual salary isn't good enough for a 21 year old with only a few games under his belt is just ludicrous. There are plenty of fans paying his wages who won't earn that in their entire careers.
