I’m not so sure I agree with this. Dele is in fine form no doubt but his presence lingering up top exposes our already severely limited central midfield. We’ve started scoring more but we’re also conceding loads as well.

I’d like to see the below formation to see if it might accommodate the best of both worlds.

Son Kane Dele
Ndombele GLC
DM
Jan Toby Sanchez Aurier

Obviously with Aurier advanced as usual and Dele tucked in rather than wide right.

This is more possible I'd say. Getting that quality DM is the key.

Really cannot see Levy spending £14million on a loan, think he will buy him regardless and perhaps move him on come the Summer should Jose not play him.

Dele has experience playing left side of the attack and I've always felt he could very similar to Ronaldo for Madrid in that left side role. It'd also allow us to to play Sessegnon on the LB position but more as a winger similar to how we have done with Aurier and play Foyth as the RB who acts as the RCB. Son will be fine, the guy is both footed and has done very well for us on that right side. Against Leicester and Chelsea springs to mind for me.

I'd go

Foyth Sanchez Alder Sessegnon
DM
Lo Celso Ndombele
Son Kane Dele

Allows Dele to be the inside forward as Sessegnon pushes up, allows us to get both Lo Celso and Ndombele in and allows us to get Foyth in.

Yeah I was thinking about whether to switch Dele and Son. As you said Dele is more comfortable drifting off the left and even his central runs with balls played over the top are usually from a leftish starting position. Sessegnon providing flank support while son wreaks havoc on his own on the right as we all know he can do. That works for me.

Just look at the players Mourinho always play - Kane, Dier, Dele, Son, Sissoko, even Aurier. The common traits of them? Loud, shows leadership and committed.

I personally don't think Mourinho likes shy and passive players. Hence we don't even see much of Ndombele before he was injured.

TBH, I’m not sure that Dier has shown leadership or commitment in his recent games.

Not sure how you measure that over the last few matches but Dier is definitely a player who has leadership qualities which is why I suspect Jose likes him so much.

You would hardly call Lucas a leader Ndombele hasn't been fit enough, Jose admitted this himself the other day.

He was already settling slowly with an Argentine manager. A new manager coming in who doesn’t know him super well is obviously gonna slow that down. But he’ll be fine.

We all want Lo Celso to play and we all want Ndombele when fit to play. Issue is, right now there’s only one spot for them at best because we’re not changing the front four any time soon. The manager is clearly going to play a front four, it’s been his formation in every match. He’s openly stated he sees Ndombele as a midfielder, he’s not said the same for Lo Celso. I take it nobody here would put the two together in CM, so next we look at where they can play.

Ndombele, well he could probably partner any of our current midfielders once he is up to speed. Really we all know that a DM is needed to partner him. He’s injured right now, so it’ll be two of Winks, Dier and Sissoko. Lo Celso isn’t displacing any of Kane, Son or Dele in the near future, and shuffling them around while on form to accommodate an unproven Lo Celso positionally would be mental, so I think his only chance of become a starter any time soon is by showing he can play off the right. Might not be ideal, but if it was good enough for Modric and Iniesta during the same stage of their development, it’s good enough for him. Otherwise, he needs to pray we sell Eriksen and don’t replace in January, as Eriksen is currently playing understudy to Dele and that’s Lo Celso’s best position in this system and this league as it stands.

You can see his ability just by some of his first touches, even against Munich, but we aren’t sacrificing Dele for a three man midfield any time soon and Kane, Son, Dele and Lucas in that order are giving Mourinho performances right now, while even Sessegnon has pushed ahead of him I imagine.

I didn't name him in my list as he didn't consistently started and is the one likely to get subbed in matches. But I still agree to your point as well.

because the previous poster was referring to players that “always play” since Jose’s arrival at the club. Not about how he played under Poch.
