I have to admit that the only times that I've seen Lo Celso play have been for us, so I know next to fuck all about him. However, the general consensus here is that he is a central midfield player - an '8' or a '10'. So I'm confused.

Today Mourinho played Sissoko, who he has already said isn't a central midfielder, in a central two with Dier. If he had played Sissoko wide right - probably a better position for him - then Lo Celso could've played in front of Dier. Maybe not his best position, but at least central; and Sissoko would have helped out KWP, so the 'defensive organisation' would have been better.

Alternatively, he could have played Lo Celso as a '10' with Eriksen nominally wide right. Again, Lo Celso would have been in a more suitable position and Eriksen has often started wide and drifted in, so he would - in theory at least - have been more useful there.

I'm not saying that I know more than our manager, but I am at a loss to understand why he chose to play Lo Celso out of position when, given the team that he chose and the formation they played in, he could have put him in a place where he could have contributed more and shown more of what he can do.

Because we bought players with the idea of setting up in a diamond formation and then both managers abandoned the diamond now we have Ndombele for CM, Dele for AM and Lo Celso isn't getting the opportunity so they're trying to force him in, it'd work he's asked to move in centrally as part of a midfield 3 but then you end up with the where do you play Dele/Son on the wing dilemma.

I thought he was trying a bit too hard if anything. I only saw the ten minutes before half time and the second half though.

Ive been thinking this. Replacing Eriksen at the tip of the dreaded diamond is my guess.

What was most disappointing was that he left KWP to be teamed up on 2 on 1. I don't care if right side of an attack is or isn't his best position, as an absolute basic level I'd expect some tracking back to help out your full back. At times Lucas was back there filling in. Lucas was meant to be playing as a striker, that wasn't his job.

I thought first half GLC looked decent on the ball. Second half poor.

We need to see him in the attacking midfield role centrally before we judge properly though.

Which when you consider it means we had very little in the way of plan B again. Also means our midfield would have been like rice paper. Deli might have been a bit bent out of shape as well. All seems far to contrived.

Hopefully Lo Celso gets more time and in time gets to show why he was highly thought of. Still feel square peg round hole with him.

Lo Celso looks like someone who could be great eventually but only in the centre of the pitch. He is also someone who is constantly fidgeting with his shorts and doesn't look motivated.

Modric didn’t start in CM though did he? He played a bit wider until he was up to speed and could show the graft to go with his quality. Then he flew. I suspect Lo Celso is going to have to prove similar to build up more trust.
