Not really though. Lo Celso and Ndombele both are very good players and were one of the best possible choices to buy in summer 2019. At the same time they are much more suited to play under Poch than Mourinho or Nuno.

Very good players (debatable) but not suited to PL football, which is the key bit. I'd have to disagree with Ndombele being called a very good player though. Nah, he doesn't have the work rate, mentality or fitness to be classed a very good player. He's a player with ability on the ball but many many flaws. I'll be interested to see how he does in Italy, and if they can make him work in their system. I think GLC is a top international regular and he'd shown it for Villareal last season so that's fair.

I think it's entirely fair to say Poch was on the evidence a poor judge of talent / recruitment. He blew over 100 mill on players that didn't have the profile to succeed in the PL. I don't think Poch staying as our manager longer would have meant they would have succeeded here either. Didn't Poch come out and say Ndombele was months or years away from being able to adapt?

When Conte was digging out our previous recruitment, he was talking about Ndombele and GLC, not just Gil.

It was Poch’s Achilles heel.

Great coach, great man manager, OK tactically, average on rotating players, bad in the transfer market

Love the guy, but he had blind spots and it cost us

In what way was Ndombele suited to poch’s system? Obviously press resistance but couldn’t of coped with our pressing game under poch.
I think Poch would have expected to work on that aspect of his game. He improved Dembele in that regards and I'm sure he saw Ndombele as the perfect replacement. He has the right attributes on the ball to play that role. He probably felt he could get him in great shape and motivated. Poch was always about developing players with potential.

As they have seem him up close in Spain on many occasions with R Betis & Villareal shame Real, Barca or Atletico don't offer £25 mil for Lo Celso , we would bite their hands off .
He doesn't fit Barca system as he's not a possession oriented player.
He's not at the level Real would go for since their midfield are entirely top level.
Atletico wouldn't be a bad option for him or them. They're a bit short on someone who can move between midfield and attack and he'd suit their fast passing style

That cuts out any of the bigger clubs in Spain then , doubt anyone else in Spain will stump up more than £20 mil for him.

Poor guy, left on such a whimper on our side - guess is fitting though, judging by how he was with us.

Even the announcement seemed to be buried among the heat of the game at the Bridge. I honestly didn't even realise.

Just sign him permanently already, Villareal ffs.

Absolutely.

Poch's midfield choice was players with great physicality like Dembele and Wanyama. Unless Poch was looking to change, which he rarely looked like doing, they were the wrong signings for his system and formation, let alone anyone else's.
He started playing that diamond (think I just threw-up in my mouth a little) so it looked like he was experimenting a bit. Poch was never the same after that final loss, actually way before that, and wanted out so I'm not sure how engaged he was during that window.

Fine with this as he will still have 2 years left next summer (according to Wiki).

I do wonder if Villarreal will ever find the £20m they will need. Maybe he will do well enough in the WC to convince somebody to part with decent money for him. Perhaps an Italian or German side
