I'm with rossdapep on this one. Jose had limited time prior to the game to put his mark on things, so he used players in positions that they knew well and didn't throw anyone in the deep end.

Dele was played off Kane.
Aurier was given licence to bomb forwards.
Dier was asked to play as a DM and press all the way up to Rice on occassion.
Davies was not asked to be a wing back.

GLC will have his chance, no doubt. If I'm honest, I wanted to see him given a chance next to Dier after we went 3-0 up, but injuries forced our hand. Going forward I can easily see him having chances at both #8 and #10. He was one of the best midfielders in La Liga last year, there is no way that Jose and his team are unaware of the talent he possesses.

Spot on, he will get chance. Jose is being sensible giving longer serving players opportunities. GLC has 3 positions he could fill in the system we used yesterday. He will get plenty of chances over the course of the season.

Think GLC will be useful against teams who park the bus and can see those games particularly at home being his main chances to impress.

No a chance we pull the plug on the GLC deal. We put 16 mill up front and it was always going to be made permanent. The benefit of this deal was to Betis to avoid paying a large sell on fee that would be owed to PSG.

Maybe Poch did want GLC but I’m sure Jose does too. He’s a fantastic player, young and has only really settled in to the squad. He’ll no doubt get some game time over the coming weeks.

We will rotate I'm sure. Lo Celso will be used plenty especially over the busy festive period. I think a lot depends on Eriksen as far as what position he plays. If Jose keeps faith in Eriksen (I'm sure he'll give him several games before deciding) then I think Lo Celso will be played wide. With Eriksen and Alli rotating in central attacking midfied and Ndombele, Sissoko, Winks and Dier rotating in central midfield there wont but much opportunity central. If Eriksen goes or gets phased out he may rotate more with Alli centrally.

Erisken’s still going, so no, I reckon Lo Celso will get his chance. He’s a scrapper and a worker so I think Jose will love him.
His versatility, creativity and work rate is going to do him a world of good - assuming we keep a similar system we saw against West Ham he can play in the floating 10 "Dele" role as well as in midfield as the creative 8 role Ndombele is going to inherit when he's back fit.

I'm sure Mourinho said on thursday's press conference that a few players had only got back that morning, I guess that was Lo Celso and Foyth so I doubt he even considered them., It also included Davinson Sanchez but there was no alternative but to play him, I think in the circumstances he did well.

Based on the formation and players picked yesterday where does GLC fit in?
Can only really see him as a no 10 or wide right in the 4231 formation we played yesterday and the way Lucas and Dele played he could be in for a spell on the bench for now
He’s super versatile. Can play as a CAM/CM and WF. He doesn’t have the explosive pace of Moura or Son but he’s a decent dribbler and passer. Also possesses a good long shot on him, and is tenacious. He’s got to feature in our match day squad and really should be getting game time because of his ability and versatility- he can offer rotation without any drop in quality at all

In one of the training vids, he was on the right, hitting diagonal balls in to the box for Dele, Son, and Kane.. Dier was doing the same from the left over to Moura and Kane. So from this I conclude that Jose will play him in rotation in the 8 or 10 role.

He can play either role, a bonus for us and Mourinho

Mourinho expects a lot from number 10s, he wants them to score a lot of goals, be good at passing and do great defensive work, Lo Celso should be good at all of those. I think he will also love Lamela if he can stay healthy.
