I think Sanchez could do pretty well in Spain. He struggles with the physicality a little in the Premier League, but he's probably more suited to La Liga. This is probably a deal that suits all parties - even more so if we can somehow persuade Kounde that Spurs is a good move for him.

I agree, I think there's a decent footballer in there still, just that the prem was the wrong move for him. He's young enough that he could actually become a very good CB if he's playing in the right league and the right system.

Tbh I expect both Dier and Sanchez to be starting against City at this point. What’s the earliest Romero can be integrated into training? Middle of next week, end of next week? Doesn’t leave much time to get settled into a defensive partnership. Even if we pull off a coup and sign Kounde as well, I don’t see us having time to get them ready for the first game.

August 2004 Naybet signed for us and then made his debut the very next day against Liverpool. Different era and all that, but it's not impossible. Just depends on Romero's fitness levels.

Decent footballer who can't control a football? Ok then

Tbh, I think he would probably be sold before the City game

Keep spreading that :)

We all had high hopes for him, sadly we need a more consistent defender, I think he needs a change of scenery

Sanchez was a big money signing and is still young and a regular international. If we are not entirely convinced by him after the years he's had with us, and a decent money offer is on the table for us to recoup some of our outlay on him, then we have to move him on

Pretty poor comment. I'm as critical of his Spurs performances as the next person, but a seasoned international who only just turned 25.
Why? He's been here a long time and looks scared of the football at times.
Sorry but it's the truth. I don't care how many caps he has whenever the ball is near him I worry as he's no good with it.

I could not agree more, he very rarely looks comfortable with the ball.

I had high hopes for him but he brings unnecessary panic to passages of our play.

His ball control is poor and his pace of passing also puts teammates in trouble.

I remember that well; he came off for Doherty in the second half but certainly impressed. We also had wonderkid Philip Ifil making his debut at right back that day.

I actually think Sanchez would do ok in Spain. He's just not suited to the Premier League it's too fast for him. His issue is he panics under pressure and he is under pressure most of the time in the PL.

A version of this I posted in a different thread the other day, but it belongs here. I´m awaiting the dislikes and disagrees galore ... :

No-one is interested in Dier. Toby went to the prestigious league in Qatar. Remember all the big clubs that wanted him a couple of years vback that summer he had the transfer clause in his contract? He could be signed for £20M or whatever it was. Yes, that´s true: no one. There´s been some interest from Galatasaray of Turkey in loaning Tanganga.

No reports of any interest in Rodon. We can´t seem to shift Aurier, and it´s not like there have been hordes of clubs trying to buy Davies, Doherty or Reguillon this summer. The latter might be a but unfair to bring to this argument as he´s obviously very talented and it´s not unlikely that, given a different economic climate - and any signal from us or the player that he or we wanted out, we would be able to sell him at a good price.

Sevilla is a top club in a top league, with a highly respected head coach. They´ve won two Copa Del Reys and qualified for noe less than 9 semifinals (or better) in that tournament in the 21st century. They won their last promotion to the Spanish top flight in 2001 and has since recorded 16 top six finishes. And won 6 UEFA Cup/Europa Leagues since 2006. Plus an European Supercup. They´ve beaten Barcelona (in the Supercup), Man Utd, Liverpool, Inter Milan in finals and semifinals. They kicked our sorry asses out of the tournament in the quarterfinals in 2006/07. They have qualified for the CL in 4 out of the last 6 years, going through to the knock out stages in their last 3 outings. And they´re qualified again for the upcoming season.

We are a wealthier club than Sevilla. But they are in no way a smaller club than us if you are looking at their results - especially over the last decade or two. It´s probably quite the opposite.

This club is for some reason (reportedly) quite eager to sign Sanchez.

Ledley King himself said in an interview last summer that the one defender he was looking forward to work closely with in training was Sanchez as he reminded him of himself.

When Toby was placed in the cooler by Poch, the pairing of Sanchez and Super-Jan was excellent - probably the last time we had a top quality CB-pairing, reminiscent of the best years of Toby & Jan. Paired with a high quality, experienced leader Sanchez can be really, really good. He´s obviously (as so many other footballers) a better player when he´s confident and feels he has the trust and support of his manager. Yes, he has the odd mistake in him, the unnecessary penalty given, etc. But in all honesty: which of our defenders isn´t? And how many of those mistakes were in fact a cause of mistakes by others that he tried to rectify?

Our playing style under JM didn´t suit our players at all - trying to soak up the pressure? Most if not all of our defenders are better with a high line and playing on the front foot. Sanchez in particular. He´s also our fastest CB - a quality which is needed with a high line..

My point: some of you don´t like Sanchez and see him as a "clown", that he´s unreliable, he´s poor under pressure, etc. - in short: that he´s not very good. But there are more than enough evidence that the rest of the footballing world see him as our best and most valuable defender. If I was trying to rebuild our defence, thre are quite a few players I would like to see go before Sanchez - IMHO he has the highest ceiling of them all (bar Reg). And I have a feeling that Nuno could get that quality out of him. BUT: he´s also (evidently) the one single defender on our books that is easily sold. That is not because he´s sh*t, but because the quality and talent is obviously there.

Counterpoint - it's about fit. Sanchez maybe a better fit at LaLiga due to their style of play. Not necessarily a great fit at PL as we can see but it can be argued due to the state of team and manager etc the last two years.

I am good with holding on to Sanchez for one more year and see how Nuno would utilize him but if we can get other players here by selling Sanchez then I'm good with that. I'm glad we have a DoF so that I feel okay with the sale than if there were none.

I agree. I would happily give him a chance alongside a dominant proactive defender like Romero.

He has all the tools to be a very good defender, and looked great in first season for us, he has just stagnated during the past couple of seasons. Under the right coach, with the right system around him, I believe he could reach a high level again.

I'll never understand why some people still think he's a good player. It baffles me.

Everyone has their onions though so all good. I disagree obviously though lol

I never understand why some people think players just stop developing at 25. It baffles me.

My point is he has played at a high level for us consistently during the first year to 18 months. I believe he can reach that level again.

Agree to disagree.

Completely agree, he has got progressively worse since he's been here, treats the ball like a hot potato, makes rash decisions and it's like his head is a 50p, ball bounces of it at all angles....

But as you say everyone has their own opinion...

Really good yesterday imo, almost like having an actual coach helped him in-game. If he could become consistent, and cut out the weird panic he has - we’d have a player on our hands. Feels like all of our defenders have been sapped of all confidence lately.
