It’s off! Good news. Ashley needs to go for that club’s sake. But the Saudi’s were not it

Next up, some dodgy American geezer is interested isn't he? Made a £350m bid or something.

I know nothing about him , but if he's interested in buying NUFC, he must be dodgy.

Just when you thought the game was going even deeper into the sewer with man city getting off their charge it manages to get its head slightly above water, albeit with a used Jonny dangling off its nose.

Well... kinda. The crux of the problems came down to the Premier League opposing the piracy issues rather than the human rights issues. Shows where their priorities are.

Don't get me wrong, the regime over there is horrific.
But just to be devils advocate, I wonder how many of us wouldn't sell our houses to the Saudi Royal Family if they were to come along and slap a mill down on the table....I know I fucking would, I'd throw in the furniture as well.

I would rather we keep ENIC, and I want them out. If that happened I would be done with Spurs.

I do wonder if the PL was going to block the sale and the Saudi's wanted to get out in front of it. I can't imagine it would be good for their rep (in the sports world) had they not passed the "fit and proper" test.

Good news for ethical reasons and practical reasons for Tottenham. Having another oil rich club with infinite resources to compete with would have been a major blow.

Also should hopefully open up the transfer market a little bit. Reckon there were a lot of clubs, players and agents waiting to see if this went through so that they could hyperinflate all of their prices, but instead will have to deal with the reality of a market scorched by the coronavirus.

For all we know the human rights thing may well have played a huge part in it but they've gone down the 'sporting' route, if you can call it that and cited piracy issues rather than get involved in political stuff. But meh, this reason, that reason, the right decision was eventually made for a change

Glad this has happened, nothing against Newcastle but we really don't need another Man City in the Prem.

Metalhead

But that's a debate for another thread.....

I agree - I wouldn’t but a lot would.

Well thank f*ck for that. Hard not to feel some sympathy for the horse-punchers, but we really really don't need another City/Chelsea in the prem. We have far too many of those as it is...

Whats sad is the Newcastle were desperate for these despots to take over and the only good thing that I can think thats come out of this is it has made the life of the FA / Premier league/ easier because the decision is taken out of their hands and I still say they would have eventually okayed this .
The reason I think they would have okayed this deal is the obstacles Human rights / TV piracy / etc are there and still obvious and if they were going to block this takeover they would or could have done from day one . Saudis pulling out has let them off the hook one way or another. For the rest of football followers we won't have to endure the excesses of another oil rich country's involvement in our country's football .

If this really is dead in the water then I hope at least that the American buys the club as they do need rid of Ashley.
