I always struggle with comments disparaging Manchester Cuty supporters because yes, success has attracted a lot of fans who otherwise wouldn’t (but surely that’s the point? My dad and uncle started supporting Spurs from Famagusta in 1962, mainly over BBC world service, because word had reached them of our wonderful talented team starring Jimmy Greaves), but City’s supporters were bloody loyal when they ended up two divisions down.

City have also won the top flight more recently than Spurs. It’s just that their barren run started a good decade and a bit before ours.

Yes, the morality of their funding is highly questionable, but I’m long past caring about other clubs being ‘financially doped’ as many put it and won’t condemn fans who think to themselves ‘you know what, I enjoy watching Aguero, De Bruyne, Silva, more than, say, Bolton or Blackburn or Burnley’.

Our own rich history wasn’t exactly formed on a shoe string budget for the times.

As for Newcastle, just having a billionaire doesn’t guarantee success. The top players have enough options to make huge amounts of money at successful clubs, Newcastle are a very long way behind.

Training facilities could do with an upgrade, this is Darsley Park

Since Keegan gave the place a lick of paint in 1992 they have relaid the artificial pitch and changed the gym equipment. That’s it in nearly 30 years

This is going to end in tears for the Geordies, as everything usually does. I don't begrudge them success though if they get any in the short term.

Ah. A pirate tv channel wiill sink the move but not the murder in a consulate that the ultimate head of the consortium himself ordered and the multiple other transgressions of the Saudi's. Of course. All about money.

They only got Al Capone for tax evasion.

If the powers that be do somehow approve the Saudi takeover, and let's face it, money talks louder than anything else these days, it might just be the nail in the coffin of my enjoyment of football. Sure, I'll probably still watch a few Spurs games but the value of the competition will be dead to me. Cheapened to the point of total irrelevance.

A despicable, odious tryrant of a ruler attempting to sportswash the blood of tens of thousands of Yemeni civilians not to mention the countless political and social injustices that occur regularly there. The Kashoggi affair a particularly abhorrent episode in their recent history.

It doesn't help that we continue to sell arms to them despite the devastating humanitarian crisis they have created for 80% of the Yemeni population. But our double standards are frankly shameful.

Concurrent to the huge sums of money involved in the game now, it's become morally bankrupt. World Cup in Qatar 2022? Can't wait (n)

Think that was a big sticking point, so positive news for Newcastle
Other way round mate. beIN are the PLs regional partner in the Middle East and the issue is with the Saudis' pirate channel beOUT Q showing beIN's PL games and programmes illegally in Saudi Arabia.

The positive news for Newcastle fans would've been if the Saudis shut down beOUT Q and allowed beIN to broadcast in the country like they've paid the PL to do.

Doesn't really make sense what they have done. As from the reports floating about it looked like the government had stepped in and pushed the deal close to completion. So IF that is the case why then ban the tv network in your region which has the rights to broadcast pretty much most if not all of the main European football leagues. So if they now buy Newcastle and continue to ban beIN sports no one in Saudi Arabia will be legally allowed to watch Newcastle games.

We know our own country is not squeaky clean but if the powers that be allow this takeover then they have no integrity whatever and are prepared to overlook any misdemeanours whatever as long as it brings money into the game . WE look to these people to be the honest rulers of the game but this take over is a step too far and will just rubber stamp what we all think of our football rulers .
Money is 1st 2nd 3rd everything else its of no real importance .
You just know these people that want to take over Newcastle will do everything in their power to get round FFP rules which at this moment is a joke . The Arab oil money is taking over the game we all love one concellation I am 76 years old and in all probability not be around to see the game ground down so that only 2 or 3 clubs can win anything .
By the way am I alone in thinking Guardiola has turned out to be very shallow and deluded he does not seem to get that if you spend over two and a half billion pounds more than other clubs you are going to have the best team the blokes a joke . .

That’s why people can knock Jose but he took Porto to EL and CL trophies. It wasn’t pretty but that’s no mean feat.

It’s all about sports washing (as we know) and them playing out their geo-political games via football. I want us to win trophies and on the pitch, I don’t care how we do it but off the pitch, I’d stick with ENIC any day. I’m not saying that they are above reproach and I’m sure that Joe Lewis is no angel but compared to the Saudis - I feel safe in saying that he is.
