What do you reckon? Awful manager. Villa are lucky to still be up. Reckon he will get sacked, Di Matteo to Villa and Low to take over Chelsea.

I'd say Capello's nailed on for Chelsea - although if they win the CL, they can't not keep di Matteo.

Didn't they say they were disappointed the club didn't get top four though? I mean, when he took over I reckon they still believed they could make the top four. I don't see him being kept on, I think they will go for a big name still.

Confirmed

BREAKING NEWS: FOOTBALL
Aston Villa sack manager Alex McLeish. In a statement, the Premier League club "confirm that [his] contract has been terminated with immediate effect".
The statement continues: "The club has been disappointed with this season's results, performances and the general message these have sent to our fans.
"The board wishes to assure supporters that we are conscious in every sense that Villa expects and deserves more and we will strive to deliver this."

BREAKING NEWS: FOOTBALL
More from Aston Villa on the dismissal of manager Alex McLeish after 11 months in charge.
The club's chairman Randy Lerner said: "We need to be clear and candid with ourselves and with supporters about what we have lacked in recent years.
"Compelling play and results that instil a sense of confidence that Villa is on the right track have been plainly absent.
"The most immediate action that we can take is to look carefully at our options in terms of bringing in a new manager who sees the club's potential and embraces our collective expectations."

In other words, Lerner's admitting he made a huge mistake. Maybe he and the board will now actually think for five seconds before they appoint a new manager.

This guy shouldnt get another job in football. I dont think I have seen a manager that sets his teams up so negatively, its either 5-4-1 or 4-5-1 stick with 8 or 9 men behind the ball religously. I dont know what Villa were thinking appointing him, at least they have come to their senses.

Probably the best thing that's happened to Villa all season. Villa fans will be delighted.

I reckon Lerner will go after somebody big this time round. Benitez? And who knows, maybe even Capello!!

You might have discovered a plan there. Most people find Benitez's football to be rather dull, so he's hard for fans to back. But if you take the hit and give a year to McLeish, then Benitez will look like Pep Guardiola.

I doubt it.

He backed O'neil and although O'neil did well, he spent a lot on average players. Since then Lerner has refused to back any of the other managers.

He'll probably go for Steve Keen and Steve Bruce.
