He never really did for us and maybe is more comfortable playing for a team, where the pressure and expectations are that much lower.

He is by far superior to Doherty, and probably on par with Emerson.

Lots of team will and have regretted letting players go, who go on to perform much better for their new clubs.. We're not alone here.

But he got two MoM ratingsout of the 3 games he played early in the season when we were short handed and even Poch admitted he played very well.

Yes he’s done well and we should have kept hold of him. Some are going over the top about him.
Southampton have just bought Livramento from Chelsea, 19yrs old and he has taken KWP place at right back. He was rested yesterday. KWP has been covering lb position.
But Chelsea should not have released Declan Rice at 14 either.

Those motm awards were rubbish though. The Newcastle one anyway.

He's clearly benefited from the football he's got to play but yesterday might be the best performance I've seen from him. In the few games I've seen previously he's still seemed a bit youth team player making his debut, very timid and a bit weak but not so much in this game. Still looks a little short of pace though.

Watched him more than a dozen times for Southampton
and he is a key player for them as an attacking full back.
Performed well for us though didn't get many chances
but took them well even if not always MOM.

Sold prematurely. But i suspect there is more
to his story than just playing ability.

Congratulations to KWP. First call-up for England.

Unbelievable achievement for him, especially given the quality of right backs in England. You could see his potential from a mile away as he was coming through - a classic example of a player who just needed a run of games to get rolling.

Another example of the wonderful talent spotting abilities of he who must not be criticised.

And the selling decision of which dickhead would you say ? Poch ? Or... ?

Don't know. I think I was not far off comatose at the time.

But wasn't it a case of Mourinho wanting Hojbjerg & because Southampton had loaned KWP (because the former manager kind of had no clue about using our youngsters) we used him to help get Hojbjerg for Mourinho?

Happy for KWP..... couldn't fathom how we let him go. Only we could train a youngster get him to a level.... let him stagnate then loan him out and sell him off for a pittance.

Just looked it up. I honestly had no idea it was just a reported £12M.

We paid more than that for Doherty, and more than twice as much for Royal.

Fucking hell

This is where we crucially needed a Director of Football... at the time I argued with my son that we got screwed in that entire deal.

Then we go pay £65 000 000.00 on 3 right backs... Serge, Royal and Doherty.

You could always see the technical ability but he was so timid. Mourinho had no interest in coaching him to improve his confidence.

I recall Mourinho wanting to keep KWP, or at least saying so, but I remember he - or ITK - said had a tits full of not getting games by the time Jose came in and almost immediately asked to go off on loan. He then was in a position where he didn't want to come back. Obviously at the time we used that to our best advantage.

Used to be so frustrating seeing him come in, get MoTM, go missing back to study for his Masters degree in "Ready" for the first team, get MoTM in a cameo appearance, then disappear again...

Homegrown and club trained.

30 million might be more than he is worth just now(though if spense is 20 million, 30 million for kwp might be right) , but probably less than what Southampton would sell for IMO, so if it's true that's a good thing to have in!

Just don't think he is a Conte type of player.

wish we’d done this start of summer. Would have been perfect as he’s excelled on both sides for Southampton. Great player that’s come on leaps and bounds since he left us.
