Agree, his delivery is better than Walkers.

I'm sure he set up one or 2 goals for us late last season from putting in an early cross/through ball over the top.

Walker infuriates me, he either storms passed the full back and balloons the cross or he slams the brakes on and lays the ball off to Lennon who looks lost and we end up losing momentum and the ball.

I don't think either are good, however in Walkers favour he is stronger, faster and has a far better engine that Naughton

I'd be more than happy if we sold both, but it makes sense to get a starting place competitor in now and sell one then look for another player next season. I'd sell Naughton first.

Also I'd love to see Walker develop a football brain though that's a particularly unlikely event, however if he could combine his physical strengths with a good footballing brain he'd be a great player. Holding on to him for an extra years rather than Naughton makes more sense and should he finally start to develop as a footballer rather than just as an athlete we wouldn't need to look for a replacement

Thank you, Barry. I expected a barrel load of abuse for stating the truth about Walker, but it seems his shortcomings are not only visible to me. Like you, I'm not at all convinced that the lad can develop a 'football brain', but am understanding of the decision to hold on to him & (if it happens) let Naughton go.

I just don't understand why Naughton is slagged off so openly and often, when Walker is seemingly given a free ride. That was my initial point & I'm grateful to you for comprehending that.

The only thing that walker is better than Naughton at, in my opinion, is running fast & being able to do it regularly. Everything else is where Naughton is better, again, in my opinion.

Naughton has a better delivery, a better footballing brain, and is better at actually defending. I'll leave it to Pochettino, though. He knows much more than I do, so I'll back whatever decision he makes.

Doesn't take much though. Hope Walker can actually develop this season. Cut out the shitty passing and crossing and he could become a really good RB, even though he's technically limited.

I don't think there's anything wrong with Naughton as a backup. And, I'm not ready to have Fredericks as our primary backup to Walker. If Walker were to have anything near the same injury problems he had last year, having Fredericks as our starting RB in the EPL sounds pretty scary.

It's about time Walker has some real competition for his place.

Have no probs with him being back up. But he does want first team football. I think he will be sold.
This Dier kid can play RB from what I have read. As can Chiri.

I hope he gets his move to Swansea and is successful. In my opinion he is not really good enough for us, and even as a back up I feel his position in the squad effectively stops a talented youngster like Fredericks from getting game time, which was my issue with Defoe.

I agree with you but we also have Kaboul & Dier who can play there. I am starting to think that if we are serious about bringing through Youth, then players like Naughton need to be moved on.

Personally I think we'd be better off keeping Naughton. Steady option as backup, homegrown quota too. Can't say I'm enthused about Lopes who has been suggested as his replacement. Not seen him play admittedly, but not all that many glowing reports about him to be found when trying to get some background. Seems a steady option, nothing more, maybe that's why it's a loan, buys us 12 months to see how Frederiks progresses then review next summer. I don't think we'd be gaining anything, no upgrade. But if Naughton wants to go, so be it.

@scat1620 Thanks for the disagree mate, but seriously, Pochettino really does know much more than I do :p ;):D

The obvious solution is too transplant Naughton's brain into Walker's body. Then we'd have one fantastic RB and as a bonus, someone, who with a little training, could help out Doris the tea lady, clean the club toilets, or we could sell to QPR.

Brain transplants are possible and legal these days aren't they?

@ Everyone_on_SC_who_has_ever_made_a_post_on_the_back_of_receiving_a_rating_from_someone_else

The following is the boilerplate PM that I send to people who have posted specifically on the back of receiving a non-Like/Agree/Winner from me, but I thought I'd post it publicly now seeing as there are an increasing number of people on SC doing this whenever they receive a non-'positive' rating (from anyone):

"Apologies for the rating your post without replying to expand on my thoughts. I don't have as much time to post as I'd like spelling out my thoughts on all things Spurs (often 10 other people have said what I think much more eloquently anyway), so I give lots of ratings out (the vast majority as 'positive', in the language of the SC ratings system) as shorthand for people whose posts I agree or disagree with. I think you're a good poster and I'm sure I will have given you more 'positive' reps than 'negative' reps in the past. Disagree with that particular post so I rated accordingly, but the +/-'ve aspect of it doesn't mean anything in real life.
Apologies for not actually making a post to express why I disagreed, but my availability and inclination to type out posts is what it is. I'm sure you'll get plenty more 'positive' ratings from me in the future, most of them without an explanation as to why I agree just like this time."

(@coopsieyid - genuinely not trying to chew you out, chap: just needed to get that out as a wider point)

Heck fella, I thought it was a funny post & not at all questioning your rating. It was obvious what you meant & I thought it'd be funny to ignore that part & concentrate on just the last bit of my post.

Chin up mate, enjoy the bonus of waking up this morning (y)
