Maybe, but you can't prove that in any way shape or form and it's not like we won the competition because of him, in fact, he scored with his arm to send us through at one point so we have VAR to thank in reality... He was a GIGANTIC waste of space in the prem and I don't think you can argue otherwise...

Maybe you could argue it would have been good to have Llorente PLUS one other competent (non-lumbering) option up top while Kane was out...and that talent off the bench could have played instead of Kane. I guess it depends what standard of player you expect at the club - particularly for what the fans are made to pay. I don't buy into this target man model - I'd personally rather a mirror of the Aguero/Jesus style of striker setup with Kane + another competent rather than all this Allardyce hoof-ball plan B shtuff.

I mean I can argue otherwise because he scored some crucial goals in the league and in cups. Its not just about the City goal, he turned the Ajax game on it's head cos we were able to play direct. The reason he didn't score more was because of Poohs tactics or the players not going long when it is blindingly obvious that was his game.

No one is saying he should have stayed or even that he is the level we aspire to but there are so many others I could point to last season who were far far worse

He scored a hat trick against lowly opposition in the fa cup. It meant nothing.

When Kane was out, we were awfully thin on the ground and had to deploy Son to cover rather than Llorente who couldn't last 90 minutes.

We got lucky on more than one occasion.

I think Llorente was slightly useful in the Ajax tie, but look, to say he was a useful player overall is revisionist twaddle. Probably a lovely bloke, but a terrible footballer. He's Tall - that's it. Not scouted and bought in by design - A player made available by Swansea on deadline day no less. A 'bargain' pick up.

In relation to itk about Josh King, and to all those who dream of a match fit striker walking through the gates of the training facility tomorrow:

King is with the Norwegian squad for the upcoming Nations League matches. The last one is against Northern Ireland at Windsor Park in the evening, Monday the 7th of September.

King said in a press conference with the national side yesterday (or two days ago) that he hasn´t been training with Bournemouth yet, but only trianed on his own in Norway, and twice with Norwegian club Stabæk (bottom half of the top division, Eliteserien) before he joined the national side.

That's not bad at all, half of Premier League aren't match fit either

King just recently spoke with Norway's TV 2 about United's failed move for him in January and they said they changed their potential destination for King from Everton to United and he replied back, "Ha! I hope you're right". Interview was published a day ago.

I thought King was one of a few we were looking at, hadn't realised he had become the main target.

Well, we genuinely won't compete with United in this market. Better get looking else where if that's the case.

In the interview with Norwegian television he also talked about his "frustration" that for the last two or three years he has been used on the left and on the right, and not in his preferred position and the position he believes he is at his best, which is striker. I know that the consensus is that he would be more a Son/Lucas type player for us, not a Kane alternative, however being Norwegian and having watched him a bit I think he is a striker that could be used on the wing rather than the opposite.

If you watch his highlights most of his goals and best bits of play are at CF, he is a CF. I'd take him but am now too fussed if he goes to United.

Given our ridiculous fixture pileup and need to rotate, I could see King getting around 30-40 appearances as ST for us next season, with around half of those off the bench. He would have to accept that he would be backup for the majority of PL games, but he'd get plenty of starts in the Europe, domestic cups, general rotation and when Kane inevitably gets injured (hopefully nothing serious this year).

If he wants to start every game then we're obviously not the club for him, but he should get a decent amount of game time in his favoured position.

I wouldn't expect too much of King in September if he is bought. He has been injured and as mentioned by others he has been training with a Norwegian team lately. I don't really question his commitment to staying fit, but there is no way he will be at his best right away in terms of match fitness - and obviously he would need some time to adapt to a new team (that would by true regardless of who we bring in of course).

Personally I don't see the short term problem. A striker can play a lot of games in a short period of time without taking any damage from it in my view - it is the medium/long term "fatigue" that catches up with you sooner or later. If Kane has to play a lot in September/October (thankfully there is no August for him this year) and gets to rest a bit more in November I think we will be fine.

And fully agree with Quasi on King. He is naturally a forward that can play out wide.

Coming round to this especially at the mentioned prices. His versatility is a good option.
